Saint John Paul II Catholic Academy offers after school teaching opportunities in a wonderful urban work environment where both staff and students are able to develop within a stimulating and faithfilled environment. Lifelong learning is encouraged and valued for all. We serve students toddlers through grade 8. Our after school program runs Monday Friday from 2:30 6:00 PM.After school teachers are expected to support the students in the classroom through completion of homework small group activities read aloud books and other supervised activities. Students should have the opportunity to complete their homework in a calm and quiet environment. There are eight performance areas which afterschool staff should engage in daily. I. Catholic IdentityMaintain a Christian and respectful environmentSupport and develop students selfdiscipline and sense of responsibility through productive conversation and modelingMentor Christian values and good character through daily interactions with students parents and staffII. Planning and Preparation for InstructionPrepare/set out materials supplies and/or equipment to use in the classroom as determined by the lead classroom teacher before leaving. If additional supplies are needed a request should be sent to the principal and after school coordinatorBe prepared to assist students on tasks and with the completion of homework.III. Classroom ManagementImplement classroom rules for discipline and management of student behavior.Create a safe respectful learning environmentBuild classroom routines for the afterschool period that promote responsibility and order.Maintain order in the classroom in a fair and equitable manner.Teachers should be circulating the room (not sitting at one table or sitting behind a desk) Maintain supervision Walkie talkies should be carried and on at all times. Teachers should be appropriately marking dismissal times Teachers should know the number of children in their care at all times. Leaving the classroom for an unscheduled break is UNACCEPTABLE Written warnings will be issuedNo use of cell phones and/or air pods while supervising childrenIV. InstructionSupport the students with their homework when age appropriate.Provide a safe quiet and structured environment.Use a variety of strategies to engage students.Model appropriate activities and engage with students at all timesV. Monitoring Assessment and FollowupCirculate throughout the classroom to check student performance and needs.Provide feedback and report any incidents of misbehavior or concern to the after school coordinator and the principal or vice principal as directed.Complete any necessary incident form timely with accuracy and while respecting the privacy of all students. VI. Professional DevelopmentObtain and maintain Department of Early Education and Care licensing when required by location and program type.Complete and maintain completion of ongoing updates of EEC EssentialsComplete and maintain completion of first aid and CPR trainingComplete and turn in any necessary incident forms according to EEC guidelinesMaintain and organized and structure learning environment as prescribed by EEC Essentials trainings.VII.
