Job Description

The Womens and Gender Studies Department in the Bellarmine College of Liberal Arts at Loyola Marymount University seeks candidates for a oneyear Visiting Assistant Professor faculty position beginning Fall semester 2025. Our department is home to a thriving Womens and Gender Studies major and minor program and as of Fall 2025 will also house a minor in LGBTQ Studies and Disability Studies. We welcome a broad range of scholars from the humanities and social sciences whose work and teaching expertise will expand our departments strengths and further our commitment to diversity social justice and inclusive pedagogy.

The successful candidate will teach the lowerdivision course WGST 1100: Race and Gender in the Contemporary U.S. as well as other lowerdivision classes (course descriptions can be found here. Depending on their expertise they may also be invited to design and lead an upperdivision seminar in their area of specialization. We highly value scholarship and teaching that advance interdisciplinary perspectives using transnational Indigenous and critical race approaches to Gender Studies Disability Studies and LGBTQ Studies. We encourage teacherscholars with doctoral degrees in Womens and Gender Studies Ethnic Studies or related interdisciplinary fields to apply. Candidates holding PhDs in other social science and humanities disciplines with designated emphases in these areas will also be considered. While a PhD is required ABD applicants who anticipate completing their doctorate by August 15 2025 are welcome to apply.

The Department places a high priority on intersectional perspectives structural justice and inclusive pedagogy in fostering academic excellence. Candidates must show promise in both research and teaching.
