As a Senior Customer Quality Engineer at our West Union facility you will lead and mentor crossfunctional teams to apply quality methodologies in the investigation of field failures or outofbox defects reported by customers. You will ensure that internal documentation aligns with customer requirements as well as hosting regular updates for key customers and facilitate special sessions for sensitive customer topics as required. They provide customer input to the manufacturing quality team and New Product Introduction (NPI) projects. Additionally they review and provide input on various quality documents such as Test Plans Control Plans and Failure Mode and Effects Analyses (FMEAs) based on customer experiences.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Liaison with R&D and marketing on product specific initiatives.
  • This position requires engineering level analysis of data gathered from various stages of the products life cycle including design test manufacturing test reliability test and field returns.
  • Emphasis in the areas of process capability and product quality this position will use analytical techniques to make recommendations for continual improvement as well as ensuring conformance to internal and external standards.
  • Lead improvement initiatives in quality & productivity.
  • Record analyze and report on customer claims to management.
  • Mentor quality team members in use of Quality tools and methodologies including KT or 8D.
  • Meet periodically with sales and product management to understand customer perspectives on Itrons Quality.
  • Support Customer and as needed Regulatory Audits
  • Analyze field returns where root cause cannot be determined at lower level and/or special attention is needed due to severity of the problem
  • Review and recommend updates to pFMEA and dFMEA based on field data
  • Lead customer facing conversations related to quality issues
  • Assess and recommend recalls or field actions

Required Skills & Experience:

  • 5 years of experience as an engineer in a manufacturing facility.
  • Experience with dFMEAs and pFMEAs
  • Experience with problemsolving methodology (Ex: 8D Kepner Tregoe)

Education:

Bachelors degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience is required.

Preferred Skills & Experience:

  • Experience with communicating directly with customers.
