Position Summary
Postdoctoral fellow position to study Concussive/Subconcussive Neurodegeneration in the Department of Kinesiology Indiana University School of Public HealthBloomington The Clinical Neurotrauma Laboratory under the direction of Dr. Kei Kawata is seeking an ambitious motivated postdoctoral fellow to join their team. This is an institutionfunded position for a minimum of two years. The position includes benefits and compensation that are in congruent with NIH stipend levels. Applications will be reviewed on an ongoing basis but applications received by 10 November 2022 will be given full consideration and the search will remain open until suitable candidate is found. The earliest anticipated start date is 15 January 2023 but is negotiable. The Clinical Neurotrauma Laboratory studies the causes modifying factors and consequences of traumatic brain injury with particular emphasis on concussive/subconcussive neurodegeneration. We use a multimodal approach that combines fluid biomarkers neuroophthalmologic measures head impact kinematics and neuroimaging. About us: The Clinical Neurotrauma Laboratory is a wellfunded high publishing laboratory in the area of concussion and subconcussive neural injury. The lab currently houses 1 postdoctoral fellow 4 PhD students 6 MS students and 6 premed research assistants. We combine laboratory subconcussion model with naturalistic field studies to precisely study concussive and subconcussive neural burden using blood biomarkers (proteomic/microRNA/exosome) neuroophthalmologic measures and advanced neuroimaging. Our collaboration network is broad as we collaborate with many notable neurotrauma scholars as well as interdisciplinary scholars in the areas like biomedical engineering gastroenterology biological informatics and psychiatry. We are a primary core member of the Imaging Research Facility IRF which is located across the street has a Siemens Prisma MRI system and associated computing system exclusively for research use as well as a mock MRI scanner for subject training. The IRF employs a fulltime MR physicist and technicians who run the scanner. Three of our PhD students are level2 MRI operator who can independently operate the MRI scan. Located on the flagship campus of the Indiana University System IU School of Public HealthBloomington has over 200 faculty in five departments.
