Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor degree in Medical Technology Medical Laboratory Sciences Chemistry Biology or closely related disciplineOR an approved ASCP discipline 30 semester hours in biology and chemistry which may be obtained within or in addition to the Bachelors).
Must obtain ASCP certification within 1 year of becoming eligible.

Responsibilities:
Provide direct patient care by supplying the patient with appropriate blood components
Perform ABO/Rh IAT DAT antibody identification crossmatching units of blood and running theautomated ABO/RH IAT equipment
Wash red blood cells and platelets
Perform platelet crossmatching and platelet antibody identification
Perform daily reagent QC and equipment preventive maintenance
Issue blood and blood components to the floors
Understand the importance of massive trauma and to issue blood and blood components as setforth in the Massive Transfusion Protocol
Communicate effectively with the blood bank customers including physicians nurses and otherUAMS staff members
Receive samples and to ensure all samples are appropriately labeled and collected properly for theBlood Bank
Assist in training of new staff and students
Maintain competency and train on all revised and new policy/procedures in a timely manner
Report any deviation from standard operating procedures to the supervisor in a timely manner
Perform daily reagent QC and equipment preventive maintenance with 100 accuracy.
Assist withperformance of quarterly semiannual and annual quality control
