You will be updated with latest job alerts via emailWayfinder Family Services (Wayfinder) formally known as Junior Blind is looking for Residential Counselors for their ShortTerm Residential Therapeutic Program. Wayfinder provides a spectrum of mental health services through various programs for populations of all acuities.
The role of the Residential Counselor is to provide care supervision and behavioral interventions that develop coping and problemsolving skills teach social skills and teach transference of those skills into the home school and community. These interventions are provided to atrisk youth in the residential programs. These interventions are developed within the collaborative planning process and are prescribed by the program.
The Residential Counselor will work in a facility providing supervision and support to Severely Emotionally Disturbed (SED) youth with serious or lifethreatening medical conditions and mental health challenges who are impacted by the foster care system in a 24/7 highly structured setting. Job emphasis is centered on helping youth increase daily living skills socialization independence behavior management and prevocational skills.
FullTime: PM and Overnight shifts available
Note: All available fulltime schedules have regular but varied start/end times and assigned workdays including some days with longer or shorter hours. Responsibilities:
Ensures the health safety and welfare of our residents in the program.
Assists in planning and supervising recreational activities which promote developmental competencies and skills targeted to residents unique and special needs.
Provides supportive guidance and mentoring working closely with therapists supervisors nursing staff and case managers.
Provides transportation to residents to medical appointments community outings meetings or other locations by driving agency vehicles.
Engage/coach our residents with different sports activities like Basketball Soccer Baseball Swimming etc.
Ensures a safe and clean living environment participating in household cleaning and maintenance activities.
Qualifications:
Associate Degree from an accredited college or university in Child Development Special Education Psychology or related field required or applicable degree with appropriate experience.
A minimum of six months experience working with atrisk youth and individuals with mental health challenges required.
Must have the skills necessary to engage and work with others from diverse backgrounds.
Maintain a nonjudgmental attitude toward youth and their families.
Modify and adjust individual intervention techniques for each situation while maintaining the original direction of the plan.
Assess and respond to a crisis in a prompt and effective collaborative manner.
Current and valid CA drivers license and minimum of three 3 years driving record acceptable to the agencys insurance carrier as position requires transportation of clients using agency vehicles.
