Job Description

Description

The University of North Alabamas Department of Engineering and Industrial Professions invites applications for two 2 fulltime positions specializing in mechanical engineering at the TenureTrack Assistant Professor or NonTenureTrack Lecturer levels depending on the successful candidates qualifications. These positions will have teaching responsibilities that involve instruction at both the University of North Alabamas main campus located in Florence AL and at the Guizhou UniversityUniversity of North Alabama International College of Engineering and Technology located in Guiyang China. The standard teaching load is 12 credit hours per semester for tenuretrack faculty and 15 credit hours per semester for nontenure track faculty with all instruction being provided in English. These positions will begin in Fall 2025. The successful applicants will be expected to teach at least two months per semester in China.

The Northern Alabama and Guiyang regions are home to a large economy of industrial and manufacturing operations. Therefore the successful candidate will have experience that is consistent with the ability to develop an ElectroMechanical Engineering Technology curriculum in support of regional manufacturing needs. This position will also continue to explore new curricular possibilities in engineering and technology as the needs of the department and region evolve. Essential Job Duties

The successful candidates will be expected to teach programrelated coursework; maintain and manage laboratories associated with the curricula; develop engineering and technology curricula related to (but not limited to) ElectroMechanical Engineering Technology; advise and mentor students; participate in scholarly activity (tenuretrack only); be involved in service to the university college department and profession; and support the departments current ABET accreditation process.

Minimum Qualifications

A PhD in mechanical engineering is required for appointment at tenuretrack assistant professor;
Masters degree in mechanical engineering is required for appointment at nontenuretrack lecturer;
Five plus years of industry experience is preferred; and
Teaching experience at the college/university level is preferred.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Ability to communicate effectively with students faculty and staff in written form verbally and interpersonally; Ability to work effectively with a diverse population of students faculty and staff; Exhibit excellent verbal written and interpersonal communication skills; Desire to teach and/or learn to teach a varied and evolving curriculum; Plan and perform handson development of laboratory equipment and exercises; and demonstrate written and spoken fluency in English (fluency in Mandarin/Southwestern Mandarin is desired but not required).
