    ELECTRICIAN DAY
    Office of Project Control

    The Superintendent invites qualified and interested persons to apply for the position of Electrician Day within the Office of Facilities Management Project Control.

    This title is governed by the New Jersey Civil Service Commission; meaning that a candidate for the position will be placed as a provisional employee. At a later date the candidate will be required to take an examination administered by the Civil Service Commission. Candidates must score and rank high enough on this examination in order to remain in the position as a permanent employee.

    DEFINITION: Under direction does varied types of work involved in the installation inspection repair servicing and maintenance of electrical equipment appliances machinery and circuits; does related work as required.

    QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
    1. Graduation from High School or Vocational School or possession of an approved High School Equivalent Certificate.
    2. Three 3 years of experience in work involving the installation inspection repair servicing and maintenance of electrical equipment appliances machinery and circuits.
    Note: Applicants who do not possess the required experience may substitute a current valid Electrical Contractor License issued by the New Jersey Division of consumer Affairs for the required experience.
    Note: Appointees may be required to pass a colorblindness test.
    3. Appointees will be required to possess a drivers license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle rather than employee mobility is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
    Note: Appointees may be required to possess a current valid Electrical Contractor license issued by the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs. The responsibility for verification of licensure rests with the Appointing Authority.

    BASIC FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
    1. Inspects electrical wiring fixtures appliances motors generators pumps power circuits and controllers of machines and elevators ascertains the nature of needed repairs and/or replacement; does whatever repair and installation work is necessary.
    2. Installs maintains inspects repairs and services high and low tension power and light feeders generating and control equipment relays transformers motors pumps switches outlets signal systems and other electrical wiring cables fixtures and appliances of varied types.
    3. Oils greases and maintains in good working order electrical fixtures appliances and other equipment and replaces worn parts.
    4. Uses various types of test equipment such as ammeters voltmeters and ohmmeters.
    5. Make emergency electrical repairs trouble shoots malfunctions and breakdowns; inspects work in progress and completed work for defects fire hazards or other unsafe conditions.
    6. Works from electrical schematics plans and specifications in accordance with established procedures.
    7. Requisitions stores safeguards and properly uses electrical equipment materials and supplies.
    8. Prepares clear technically sound accurate and informative reports containing findings conclusions and recommendations.
    9. Maintains essential records and files.
    10. Will be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency office or related units.

    KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
    1. Knowledge of the equipment and techniques involved in installing inspecting repairing and maintaining cables wiring motors generators pumps refrigerators radios sound equipment switchboards oil machinery and circuits.
    2. Knowledge of the challenges generally encountered in the performance of electrical work.
    3. Ability to read and interpret plans specifications and diagrams.
    4. Ability to analyze problems involving electrical installation inspection maintenance and repair work and develop effective work methods.
    5. Ability to install inspect repair and maintain cables wiring motor generators pumps refrigerators radios sound equipment oil burners and other types of electrical equipment appliances fixtures machinery and circuits under varying circumstances.
    6. Ability to understand remember and carry out oral and written directions.
    7. Ability to order store safeguard and properly use equipment materials and supplies.
    8. Ability to prepare clear technically sound accurate and informative reports containing findings conclusions and recommendations.
    9. Ability to maintain essential records and files.
    10. Ability to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency office or related units.
    11. Ability to read write speak understand or communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position. American Sign Language or Braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of communication.

    SALARY EMPLOYMENT PERIOD AND UNION AFFILIATION

    2. Employment Period: Twelve 12 Months
