About the Faculty of Continuing Education

Mount Royal Universitys Faculty of Continuing Education has provided high quality education to the Calgary community and beyond for more than 75 years. Serving more than 30000 students per year we offer a suite of Ministry of Advanced Educationapproved programs (occupational programs in massage personal fitness trainer and funeral education; academic upgrading; and our Transitional Vocational Programming) over 60 programs and 350 courses to support professional and personal development in a wide range of topics and our Conservatory (which offers a broad range of music and speech arts programming). Our courses cover a wide range of topics including but not limited to business technology and health. These courses are offered in a variety of formats on campus online in the workplace and in the community.

About the Role

The department is seeking a professional interested in contributing their expertise to teach in the Massage Therapy Diploma.

Name of Course: XMAT 25031 and XMAT 25032 Case Study Literature Review and Lab

Days and Times Offered: Blended

Course Description:Gain further understanding of the value of research in the massage therapy profession through the evaluation and utilization of medical journals current research and professional literature. Apply research skills to predict key themes to determine the effect massage therapy has on a specific medical condition.

Course Learning Outcomes:

Upon completion of this course the student will be able to:

  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of a chosen pathology or condition
  • Demonstrate how to conduct academic research to source information
  • Demonstrate how to integrate medical research into a massage therapy practice
  • Write an indepth literature review and present the findings
  • Demonstrate how to apply to academic journals for publication consideration

This blended course has an online lecture and inperson components. The instructor will use the approved curriculum; implementation of applicable curriculum assessment measures; marking and submitting final course grades. The instructor will also be required to maintain regular contact with the administration team and adhere to university policies and deadlines.

Responsibilities

Instruction:

  • Lesson preparation
  • Course delivery
  • Marking/grading
  • Course outline preparation
  • Facilitate course delivery using approved curriculum and learning materials
  • Review and revision of course assessments
  • Host virtual Google Meet sessions with students once per week or at least twice during the course
  • An online instructor is required to access the course daily; however there are no predetermined times of the day an instructor is required to be online. Online instructors must have reliable internet service throughout the entire period of the course.
  • Reply to students within 2448 hours.

Administration:

  • Marking and submission of course grades
  • Maintain regular contact with the program administrative team
  • Participate in virtual instructor meetings and individual meetings with the program coordinator as required
  • Participate in meetings and adhere to university policies and deadlines
