This positions duties include assisting in receiving storing distributing cremating and final disposition of human cadavers used for health science education and research within the State of Oklahoma and accredited medical schools outside of Oklahoma that have been approved by Oklahomas Anatomical Board. Help faculty during anatomy courses and/or training.

Duties:

  • Processing. Assist in receiving and storing all cadavers accepted into the program. Verifies sex condition and ensures cadavers and specimens are properly labeled before adding to inventory.
  • Inventory. Tracks cadaver inventory specimen quality and condition.
  • Distributes. Assist in processing cadaver requests and selecting appropriate donors based on condition. Help with handson transporting to oncampus training sites.
  • Cremation. Help to prepare perform and track cadavers and specimen for cremation.
  • Maintenance. Helps in maintaining morgue and anatomy laboratories to include but not limited to washing cadaver tanks and morgue trays flushing emergency eye wash stations replacing sharps containers preparing chemicals for freezer cases and wetting solutions. Sets up and disassembles labs for various medical school and resident courses.
  • Ability to work with cadaver/donor in various conditions including lifting and taking tissue and fluid samples.

  • Lifting capacity: Ability to lift and move bodies weighing 50 pounds or more.
  • Standing endurance: Comfortable standing for extended periods of time.
  • Mobility: Dexterity to maneuver around tight spaces and navigate with cadavers/donors.
  • Fine motor skills: Precise hand movements for tasks like tissue sampling or body preparation.
  • Movement: Ability to bend stoop kneel push pull walk climb ladders reach overhead and twist to perform essential functions.
  • Working Environment: Risks which require the use of special safety precautions working with contagious diseases or hazardous chemicals etc. Working conditions are in a morgue with exposure to temperature variations dampwet surfaces cadavers in various conditions infectious diseases and unfavorable odors.

Required Education: Bachelor degreeAND:

  • 12 months related experience

Equivalent/Substitution:48 months experience in funeral service morgue management pathology assistant or a body donor program in lieu of a Bachelors degree.

Skills:

  • Knowledge of laws governing the services provided.
  • Ability to work with and process cadavers and human specimens.
  • Ability to understand written and verbal instructions and follow through in a timely manner.
  • Ability to identify alternative solutions or approaches to problems.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize requests.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
