College advisers seek to help more Utah students attend college. Recent college graduates will serve as college access advisers in selected public secondary institutions throughout the state. Working alongside school staff and advisers will assist students with navigating the college admissions process. This includes but is not limited to admissions applications financial aid forms and scholarship applications and college entrance examination registration and preparation. This posting is for all schools. Please include your regional preference. Responsibilities
The college access adviser assists Utah high school students in realizing their postsecondary dreams by advising students with college admissions financial aid and scholarship applications; coordinating information with high school staff at the students school. Responsibilities include: Participate in a twoweek intensive summer training program to prepare advisers on admissions processes financial aid and scholarships test preparation and parent engagement skills. Maintains expertise in admissions and financial aid advising. Meet oneonone with approximately 70 of the senior class (this goal will be modified depending on class size). Work towards programmatic goals which include 1:1 meetings FAFSA completion college applications completed etc. Goals will vary from school to school. Provides oneonone timely and relevant information on college admissions processes financing college as well as registering for and taking ACT / SAT examinations. Encourages each student to consider a broad range of appropriate college choices including technical colleges certificate programs and twoyear and fouryear programs. Helps each student complete and submit admissions and financialaid applications. Assists each student in interpreting correspondence from colleges including offers of admission and financial aid. Follow up with students who attend college conferences or visits. Encourages students and their families to consider plan for and apply to colleges and universities. Visits classrooms assemblies and club meetings to offer advising services and emphasize the importance of college. Establishes productive working relationships with principals counselors and teachers in the assigned high school. Communicate regularly to school staff on program progress toward goals. Assess in consultations with the program director and school personnel the needs of each school and adapt programs and activities to meet these needs. Actively seeking the advice and counsel of the onsite supervisor at each partner high school. Assists in the efforts of other advisers within the service area. Organize; provide support for and attend evening and weekend events organized by other advisers. Assist students with finding scholarship resources outside of college/university and government funding. Coordinated student support with other college access programs in the school (if applicable). Makes phone calls to parents to keep them engaged in the collegegoing process. Classroom presentation or group outreach to juniors/sophomores if time permits and as requested by the school. Submits monthly progress reports to the program director documenting progress and outcome data. Assists in the assessment and longterm sustainability of the program. Assists the program director and evaluation staff in identifying collecting and interpreting key progress and outcome variables to evaluate the effectiveness of the program. Consults with the program director to seek out and participate in other opportunities for professional development. Performs other related duties as assigned.
