Job Description

Overview
The Head of Department (HOD) for Visual Arts plays a pivotal role in the educational institution by leading and shaping the visual arts program. This leadership position is essential to fostering an environment that encourages creativity selfexpression and the appreciation of art. The HOD will not only manage the department but also inspire both students and faculty members by showcasing the relevance of visual arts in today s world. By developing innovative curricula and promoting collaborative projects this role ensures students develop critical thinking and problemsolving skills which are essential in the arts and beyond. The HOD is responsible for maintaining high standards of teaching ensuring the curriculum remains contemporary and relevant while also nurturing individual student talents. Moreover this position actively contributes to the institution s overall educational goals positioning visual arts as a vital component of a wellrounded education.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the Visual Arts department providing direction and vision.
  • Develop and implement innovative curricular enhancements and instructional strategies.
  • Oversee lesson planning and curriculum development for courses.
  • Foster a collaborative environment among staff and students.
  • Coordinate departmental assessments and program evaluations.
  • Organize and lead exhibitions competitions and events.
  • Ensure that the resources and materials needed for the department are appropriately managed and allocated.
  • Facilitate professional development opportunities for faculty within the department.
  • Maintain communication with parents regarding student progress and departmental activities.
  • Promote integration of technology within the visual arts curriculum.
  • Manage departmental budgets and financial planning.
  • Mentor students and encourage their artistic growth and individual expression.
  • Work with community partners to expand opportunities for student engagement in the arts.
  • Stay current with trends in visual arts education and relevant art movements.
  • Participate in school leadership meetings and initiatives.
Required Qualifications
  • Master s degree in Fine Arts Art Education or a related field.
  • Minimum of five years of teaching experience in visual arts.
  • Proven track record of leadership within an educational setting.
  • Strong portfolio showcasing personal artistic work.
  • Experience in curriculum development and educational program design.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to inspire and engage students in creative processes.
  • Familiarity with various art forms media and techniques.
  • Knowledge of educational technology tools for arts education.
  • Experience in managing budgets and departmental resources.
  • Desire to collaborate with fellow educators and community partners.
  • Commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Ability to assess student work effectively and provide constructive feedback.
  • Participation in professional organizations and continued education in the field.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
