Job Description
The Shipping & Receiving Specialist Lead is a working Lead position responsible for overseeing incoming and outgoing shipments including inspections acceptance checking in packages preparing and transferring deliveries. Delivers materials to various locations and prepares outbound shipments for pickups by various carriers. Assists in the processes of ensuring assets are properly processed and tagged per University policy as well as facilitation of surplus property. Operates powered industrial trucks (fork truck electric/manual pallet jacks) and box trucks while maintaining a secure safe and clean warehouse. Required Certifications: Valid Drivers License Fork Lift Certification Lead Duties: Under the direction of the Shipping and Receiving Manager monitors the daily duties of the Shipping and Receiving Specialists prepares basic reports orients and trains employees on proper practices and Marshall University policies. General Duties: Consolidates equipment supplies and packages for delivery by campus building and priority. Sets up the delivery routes utilizing a lastin/firstout loading concept. Loads trucks using a forklift or pallet jack when necessary. Guides workstudy students/temporary employees when available to assist in loading and delivery activities. Delivers materials to various/appropriate departments on and off campus and obtains the signature of an authorized receiver. Returns with the original signed delivery tickets and files them for later reference if needed. Receives equipment and supplies of all types from vendors including highly expensive scientific instrumentation and hazardous biological radioactive chemical materials. Contacts appropriate personnel regarding radioactive materials. Receives and delivers express and overnight shipments from various carriers and ensures prompt delivery. Inspects shipments and document damage on departmental paperwork. Validates material against bills of lading/truck manifests before acknowledging receipt and acceptance by an original signature. Reports and documents potential damages on receiving paperwork (bill of lading shipping manifest etc). Purchase Ordered Items: Opens and inspects packages checks for concealed damages matches contents against packing slips organizes material for final receipt and entry into Banner/current inventory system. Items are logged and tagged as assets where applicable. Prepares outbound shipments for pick up by various carriers. Ensures all shipments and packages are documented in accordance with required regulations and codes. Prepares bills of lading and other appropriate documentation in accordance with required regulations. Contacts carriers to schedule pickups signs appropriate documentation for the carrier and files the related documents. Inspect physical conditions of vehicles and forklift for maintenance repairs or replacements. Assist in Surplus processes including picking up items organizing items tagging/processing items visitors assistance surplus events. Required to work overtime and call out on an as needed basis.
