Job Description

Radiodetection is a world leader in the design and development of test equipment used by utility companies to help install protect and maintain their infrastructure networks. With a truly global presence and a team of dedicated experts we are at the forefront of detection technology.

This role is based at our headquarters in Bristol you will be working as a part of a project team driving forward our product range.

About the EmbeddedSoftware Engineer:

You will be part of Radiodetections multidisciplinary engineering team and undertake design development and maintenance of software for our range of locator products.

The role requires excellent skills in C/C for embedded firmware development in realtime DSP orientated hardware platforms. The role also requires skills and experience of application development for embedded Linux.

The ideal candidate will also have good knowledge of bare machine microcontrollerbased software and understand its interaction with the hardware.

Responsibilities of the Embedded Software Engineer:

  • Develop embedded software following the entire software lifecycle from design and coding through to delivery and support
  • Investigate embedded software issues found in testing production or discovered in the field.
  • Verify the correct operation of new processor hardware working together with electronics engineers
  • Participate in progress and planning meetings typically following an agile development methodology
  • Make accurate effort estimates identifying technical risks and mitigations
  • Participate in technical peer reviews
  • Contribute to research and project proposals for innovative locator products

Requirements of the Embedded SoftwareEngineer:

  • Embedded C development for DSPs or microcontrollers (eg TMS320 STM32 MSP43x)
  • Realtime operating systems for processors with constrained resources (eg FreeRTOS mbed)
  • The complete life cycle from specification prototyping and testing through to production and support
  • Source code control tools (eg Git)
  • Hardware interfacing UART I2C SPI RS232 etc. with a basic understanding of electronic schematics
