ABOUT THE POSITION
The Department of Medicine and Primary Care at the proposed Illinois College of Osteopathic Medicine (IllinoisCOM) is seeking a dynamic and experienced physician educator and leader to serve as founding faculty in Internal Medicine. This fulltime position is open to candidates at the rank of Assistant Professor Associate Professor or Full Professor. Academic rank to be determined by The Chicago School & proposed IllinoisCOM academic rank policy.
The ideal candidate will be a dedicated educator accomplished clinician and innovative leader with expertise in Internal Medicine. The successful candidate will oversee the development and delivery of the Internal Medicine curriculum support faculty recruitment and development and foster a collaborative studentfocused environment that aligns with the mission and values of the proposed IllinoisCOM and The Chicago School.
The Section Chief will lead curriculum development and innovation clinical partnerships research initiatives and community engagement to ensure the proposed IllinoisCOMs program trains physicians to deliver highquality patientcentered care that integrates both physical and mental health.

The University is building the proposed Illinois College of Osteopathic Medicine or the IllinoisCOM (candidate status seeking preaccreditation) anticipated to open for its first class of students in summer 2026 with a Mission to train exceptional physicians to leverage the interconnection of physical and mental health to provide compassionate patientcentered care of the highest quality.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES
Leadership & Administration
Provide visionary leadership for Internal Medicine within the proposed IllinoisCOM.
Lead curriculum development and assessment for the Internal Medicine clinical rotations.
Assist curriculum development and assessment in preclinical courses as needed.
Recruit mentor and develop faculty members within the department.
Maintain partnerships with hospitals clinics and community organizations to support clinical training and research opportunities.
Ensure compliance with accreditation standards and institutional policies.
Teaching Curriculum Development & Student Success
Oversee the development and delivery of an innovative interdisciplinary Internal Medicine curriculum.
Teach medical students using evidencebased instructional methods including casebased and smallgroup learning.
Support student coaching mentoring and professional development in clinical and academic settings.
Collaborate with other faculty and clinical educators to integrate Internal Medicine content across the curriculum.
Service
Represent the College in professional organizations and events.
Assist where needed with student recruitment and community outreach efforts.
Participate in college and University committees.
Support student and faculty participation in community outreach and servicelearning programs.
Advocate for diversity equity and inclusion in medical education.
Engage in clinical practice (strongly encouraged).
Research & Scholarly Activity
Promote a culture of research and scholarship.
Support faculty and student research.
Seek external funding opportunities and partnerships to enhance research initiatives.
Ensure ethical and regulatory compliance for research activities.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
DO or MD degree with board certification in related specialty.
At least five 5 years of experience in medical education residency training or faculty leadership.
Demonstrated excellence in teaching curriculum development and student mentorship.
Strong leadership communication and problemsolving skills.
Commitment to collaborative interprofessional education and the integration of osteopathic principles in training.
At least five 5 years of clinical practice experience.
IDEAL QUALIFICATIONS
Experience as a department chair program director or senior faculty leader in an accredited medical school or residency program.
Strong background in educational innovation simulationbased training and competencybased assessment.
Established record of research and scholarly activity in primary care or medical education.
Demonstrated commitment to health equity diversity and inclusion in clinical practice and medical education.
POSITION DETAILS
Salary range: $175000 $250000 commensurate with experience and academic rank.
Location: Chicago IL (Relocation assistance available for eligible candidates).
Reports to: Chair of Medicine and Primary Care.
Employment Type: Fulltime.
