REGISTRAR OF VOTERS
Temporary Election Worker Specialist
Logistics and Warehouse LEAD



The County of San Diego Registrar of Voters (ROV) Logistics Operations has temporary job opportunities forthe position of Election Worker Specialist Logistics and Warehouse Lead. Applicants must be dependable detailed orientated energetic and enthusiastic.


Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of the following:

  • California vehicle laws and safety guidelines.
  • Warehouse safety practices with emphasis on proper and safe lifting techniques.
  • Basic mathematics (addition subtraction multiplication and division).
  • Basic use of a personal computer printer phones copy machines calculators or other office equipment (not required but a plus).

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to train supervise and work well within a diverse team while demonstrating supportive behavior.
  • Ability to provide guidance and give constructive feedback.
  • Handle and resolve difficult situations in a positive manner using good judgement and accuracy.
  • Communicate effectively with staff public and management.
  • Available to work throughout the election cycle including evenings and weekends. Overtime and schedule changes may occur with little to no advance notice especially during the two 2 weeks prior to Election Day.
  • Learn new work processes and procedures.
  • Detail orientated (matching of numbers sorting and packaging).
  • Work in fastpaced environment.
  • Understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Work with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Perform physical tasks.
  • Work overtime weekends and holidays as needed.
  • Treat coworkers other County employees representatives of outside agencies and members of the public with courtesy and respect.

Specialized Skills (desired but not required)

  • Ability to setup navigate and understand the proper use of electronic equipment used for election purposes (i.e. ePollbook (on an Apple iPad) a Ballot Marking Device iPhone applications and a county issued laptop etc..
  • Experience driving 16foot or larger trucks.
  • Experience operating a forklift (Current certification is a plus) or willingness to trained.
  • Valid California Drivers License (required for driving County vehicles).

Schedule

  • Assignment will be approximately 68 weeks.
  • Shift will be weekdays 6 8 hours per day with overtime and weekends as needed. Some overtime will be mandatory to meet the needs of the Election.


Examples of Duties

  • Perform daily procedures policies and supply responsibilities.
  • Supervise election staff and ensure daily attendance of staff and report accurately.
  • Lead election worker staff to complete projects on time according to Election Calendar.
  • Assist in maintaining a safe environment in the warehouse and surrounding area by following and supervising safety procedures and reporting incidents.
  • Assist in maintaining the security of the warehouse and surrounding area by closing doors and limiting access to authorized employees or personnel.
  • Assembly of poll worker supplies consisting of counting sorting matching sequence numbers and packaging; requires attention to detail.
  • Loading of supplies into storage containers of various sizes.
  • Drive midsize vehicle 16foot box truck to deliver or pickup vote center supplies using a load list and a set schedule.
  • Perform diagnostic testing and preparation of voting systems by following some verbal and written stepbystep instructions.
  • Use a pallet jack dolly/hand truck to move varying quantities and sized of items.
  • Properly store supplies in designated locations.
  • Load and unload trucks and may operate specialized equipment for the handling of heavy materials (i.e. Dock leveler).
  • Assist in maintaining the cleanliness and order of the warehouse by using brooms mops disinfectants solvents or other cleaning tools or supplies.
  • Receiving and unpacking of supplies while checking descriptions and amounts.
  • Inventorying of election supplies.

WORK PERIOD
Applicants are required to attend a twohour orientation once hired. The orientation will be conducted by Logistics team members on the first day of work.

Candidates selected for this position will have staggered start dates that will correspond with the election cycle. The start and end date of a candidate is based on the workload of the Logistics program. Once an applicant receives background clearance they will be notified by a Logistics supervisor and assigned their shift. All candidates hired for this program will work at the ROVs main office located 5600 Overland Ave San Diego CA.
