Job Description

Great Plains Communications is looking for an experienced Wireless Network Engineer to join our growing team. This position is in office based in Omaha NE.

This position will build and support large and/or complex customer wireless networks following 802.11x standards and industry best practices for implementing highdensity WIFI solutions. Will research test configure install and maintain the equipment required for these networks. Will troubleshoot customer and network problems analyze performance issues and resolve outages. Will provide support to the Business Solutions team and all GPC departments.

Duties include:

Builds and supports GPCs Wireless IP networks to be efficient scalable secure and manageable.

Research orders plans configures installs tests and evaluates wireless networking technologies.

Works with SMB / Enterprise IP networks wireless networks and VoIP networks and other networks as assigned.

Ensures wireless connectivity meets customer satisfaction.

Create heat maps to show wireless coverage post install of new wireless systems.

Utilizes wireless analyzers to ensure installed wireless systems have limited wireless congestion issues.

Writes project plans schedules project meetings and assembles appropriate teams to make projects successful.

Assists the sales team with design and sales processes.

Follows established work order and purchasing procedures:

Creates and closes work orders in a timely manner.

Requests purchase orders.

Documents costs for budget tracking.

Confers with the Business Solutions and the Product management teams to ensure responsible spending of available budget funds

Obtains the best price for equipment by requesting quotes from multiple vendors when appropriate.

Continually creates updates and tracks all tasks and projects with project management tools.

Installs hardware and cabling configures and tests equipment and performs failure/redundancy testing as needed.

Ensures network hardware and software is maintained at manufacturerrecommended versions.

Ensure all network components are properly cabled to meet GPC and industry standards.

Ensures network equipment is being monitored by the NOC when appropriate.

Communicates network problems and changes to management NOC and IP Engineering team. Utilizes formal change management procedures where necessary.

Performs work during scheduled latenight maintenance windows as necessary to minimize service disruptions to customers and employees.

Provides oncall support for all networks listed above.

Assists and supports all GPC teams

Assists with projects outside his/her direct areas of responsibility.

Attend project meetings.

Assists other GPC personnel with design configuration and testing of their projects.

Provides peer review/feedback of equipment configuration files diagrams project ideas etc.

Installs hardware and cabling configures and tests equipment performs failure/redundancy testing as needed

Assists with hardware and software inventory.

Provides oncall troubleshooting assistance to GPC staff for service disruptions.

Conducts and/or participates in postoutage analyses and ensures any recommended changes or followup activities are completed.

Provides support to GPC customer and employee support/troubleshooting departments.

Provides escalated technical support to the Service Assurance group.

Provides escalated technical support to the Network Operations Center (NOC).

Provides support to the IT Service Desk for networkrelated issues.

Helps resolve all issues in a timely manner.

Conducts and/or participates in postoutage analyses and ensures any recommended changes or followup activities are completed.

Creates and maintains documentation and diagrams for GPC customer networks.

Creates Visio diagrams of networks he/she is directly responsible for and maintains them to be consistently accurate and up to date. These diagrams should be accurate and detailed.

Creates and maintains other written documentation about networks as appropriate.

Manages tools used for maintaining and troubleshooting GPC networks.

Other duties as assigned by mgmt.

B.S. Degree in Computer Science Computer Systems Management Computer Systems Networking Telecommunications Engineering or relevant professional experience desired. Cisco CCNA certification preferred.

35 years of experience in a telephone or telecommunications environment and in a customer service environment desired along with 3 or more years of experience in the installation and support of Wireless IP networks.
