Instruct student officers and police officers in basic (eligible for KU academic credit) intermediate advanced and/or specialized law enforcement classes courses seminars and workshops at the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center (KLETC) and outreach sites throughout Kansas. Provides student officers with academic counseling services and evaluates student officers achievement and provide/record appropriate records and reports. Develop curricula learning objectives lesson plans and handout reference material for all certified and authorized basic law enforcement training academy programs in Kansas. Regularly reviews current curriculum to assess and analyze validity. Bachelors degree or the ability to obtain within six months of hire date and a minimum of five years of increasingly responsible experience as a fulltime certified law enforcement officer. Special Position Requirements: Holder of or ability to obtain a valid and current Kansas drivers license; May be exposed to hazards of firearms; emergency vehicle operations; physically demanding defensive tactics; and extreme weather conditions. May require occasional travel; No convictions of or diversions from any felony crimes or any misdemeanor or felony crimes of domestic violence.

Position Overview
The Police Instructor assists in and/or is responsible for the instruction of students in basic advanced and specialized law enforcement classes courses and seminars conducted by the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center. The Police Instructor is responsible for development of curriculum and learning objectives for general police subjects and instruction of basic training and inservice training classes at and outreach sites across the state. Other tasks duties and assignments as directed which are related to the instructional mission of KLETC. The person in this position will report directly to the assigned Basic Training Assistant Director of the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center. Some travel is required.
The Hutchinson Campus consists of 173 acres with fifteen buildings including two multistory residential student dormitories.
The Hutchinson Campus is home to the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center (KLETC). A unit of The University of Kansas (KU) KLETC serves as the central agency for all law enforcement training in the State of Kansas. KLETC manages a $12 million annual budget 65 authorized FTE staff (augmented by more than 400 contract/adjunct staff annually) and trains nearly 15000 students annually in residential online and outreach programs. KLETC serves 437 recognized law enforcement and police agencies in Kansas providing basic training and continuing education programs throughout each fiscal year.

- Bachelors degree from an institution accredited by the Higher Learning Commission;
- A minimum of five years of increasingly responsible experience as a fulltime state or federal certified law enforcement officer.
- Effective written communications skills as evident in application materials.
- Proof of education in the form of an official transcript from an institution accredited by the Higher Learning Commission.
- Valid Kansas drivers license or a valid outofstate drivers license and the ability to obtain a valid Kansas license.
- Bachelors degree specifically in adult education or an academic discipline related to law enforcement from an institution accredited by the Higher Learning Commission;
- Postbachelors degree or progress toward such degree in an academic discipline related to adult education or law enforcement from an institution accredited by the Higher Learning Commission;
- Ten years or more of fulltime experience as a state of Kansas certified law enforcement officer;
- Experience in the training education and/or instruction of adults as evidenced in application materials.
- Experience as a law enforcement instructor in a law enforcement training academy or college setting as evidenced in application materials.
