Job Description

Primary Responsibilities
Reporting to the Director of Institutional Research the Institutional Research Analyst assists with information requests and research for decision support strategic initiatives and external reporting. The Search Committee is looking for equityminded applicants who demonstrate a sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic socioeconomic cultural disability gender identity sexual orientation and ethnic backgrounds present in our community and who value the opportunity to actively contribute to the liberal arts mission of the University. The Institutional Research Analyst is expected to work inperson oncampus. The Institutional Research Analyst performs routine and ad hoc reporting manages small and largescale data and research projects and communicates findings in the form of data tables data visualizations presentations and reports. The Institutional Research Analyst also assists with institutionwide surveys and is responsible for completing and submitting mandated/compliance reports/surveys. One of the key responsibilities of this position is to maintain the IR Offices SQL data warehouse and website. This position requires knowledge of data analysis and reporting methodologies organizational skills keen attention to details and the ability to manage multiple tasks. It is expected that in the next few years the IR Office at St. Lawrence University will progress toward new methods and platforms to provide analytical data to inform its various constituencies and the Institution Research Analyst is expected to engage in this process and mission. Essential Functions Identify and extract a wide range of data; inspect clean and code data in preparation for analysis and data warehouse updates Maintain and update the IR Offices extensive historical SQL data warehouse Assist with the update of the Universitys longitudinal trend analyses and fact sheets including the IR website Develop documentation and scripts to validate data accuracy and consistency in data collection and reporting efforts Identify and communicate trends opportunities and concerns through data analysis Assist in the coordination and preparation of state federal and other external reporting requirements (e.g. IPEDS NYSED data collections NCAA reports) Respond to ad hoc informational requests from faculty staff and administrators within the University Serve on committees work groups or project teams and contribute as an active member of the community Assist with other duties as assigned Knowledge Skills & Abilities General Skills Excellent organizational analytical written and verbal communication skills Keen attention to detail and followup skills Attentiveness and sensitivity to diversity equity and inclusion values in data analysis Ability to work with diverse constituencies and contribute to a teambased environment Ability to handle confidential materials discreetly and professionally on a routine basis Excellent time management skills; ability to work independently multitask and prioritize workflow in order to meet deadlines Technical Skills Solid knowledge and demonstrated understanding of data sources database design and development logic and constructs especially as related to data warehousing Working knowledge of SQL (or similar) and data extraction methodologies Experience in querying manipulating analyzing and reporting large amounts of complex data Proficiency in analytical software packages such as SPSS R SAS and Python; advanced knowledge of Excel and data visualization tools (e.g. BI Tableau) Some knowledge of web frameworks/website design (e.g. Drupal) Ability to make large and/or complex data more accessible understandable and usable Demonstrates an understanding of bias in data and how to control for it

Minimum Qualifications
A Bachelors degree in a research/social science/analytics related field Minimum of 35 years of professional experience in higher education data analytics research statistics or a related field (will consider Masters degree or higher toward 12 years of experience requirement depending on the program) Indepth knowledge and demonstrated competency in working with relational database systems

Preferred Qualifications
Advanced degree in a research/social science/analytics related field Previous experience in an institutional research position
