JOB SUMMARY
Performs routine and basic work in general maintenance repairs fabrications remodeling and construction commonly represented by the maintenance and construction trades in maintaining and upgrading existing facilities grounds and equipment.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Two 2 years of experience in related building maintenance and/or construction trade.
A valid Drivers License accepted by the State of Utah is required at the time of hire. A valid Drivers License issued by the State of Utah must be obtained within six 6 months of hire to operate a county vehicle.
Some Departments may require a current Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) Medical Card at the time of hire AND/OR attainment of a Commercial Drivers License (CDL) within six 6 months of hire.
Due to the nature of this position the successful applicant must pass a required background check through fingerprinting and enrollment in the continuous RAP Back (Record of Arrest and Prosecution Back) program in accordance with current County Human Resources policy requirements.
Must receive a verified negative test result on a mandatory drug test before starting this position. May be subject to random alcohol and drug testing. May be subject to postaccident and reasonable suspicion alcohol and drug testing.

It is mandatory that all new hires receive the Tdap (Tetanus Diphtheria & Pertussis) vaccine before beginning employment or provide a copy of their immunization record prior to starting employment based on agency requirements. The immunization record must show the vaccine name and date received.
Upon hire a twostep Tuberculosis skin test will be required. The first will need to be placed prior to starting employment.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This position requires extensive physical labor: lifting pushing pulling and carrying objects over 50 pounds (occasionally up to 100 pounds with some assistance) kneeling bending sitting and standing. The work involves exposure to extreme weather conditions dirt dust heat cold chemicals smoke and/or loud noises.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING THIS POSITION
Work schedules and hazards vary. May be required to work holidays nights weekends or special events as needed. May be required to work nontypical hours.
Positions within the Salt Lake County Jail (which is a lockeddown facility) have direct contact with prisoners and may be exposed to stress as a result of human behavior in a jail environment.
