Description

The Potomac School art department is seeking candidates for an anticipated art teacher vacancy for theschool year. This is a fulltime position reporting to the assigned division head and is responsible for teaching four classes of art as well as advising a group of students.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate artistic ability and personal leadership qualities to inspire student learning by understanding the knowledge base and developmental characteristics of 712th graders.
  • Plan prepare and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials in a manner that inspires independent learning and facilitates active improvisation using various teaching methods.
  • Instruct students in studio methods and with a variety of materials.
  • Teach visual art curriculum evaluate students progress inform parents of progress.
  • Maintain accurate attendance records; manage classroom and discipline procedures to ensure an environment conducive to learning; meet with parents to discuss student progress and concerns.
  • Participate in faculty and professional meetings educational conferences and training workshops.
  • Work in an organized collaborative dependable patient and creative manner.
  • Advise a small group of Intermediate School students by developing meaningful relationships with them and supporting their academic and socialemotional growth.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree in art and design or a related field with a minimum of two years experience teaching.
  • Ability to communicate motivate and understand students attending to their educational and emotional needs.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and communicate effectively with other teachers support staff parents and members of the community.
  • Ability to recognize and respond to individual and cultural differences in students and use different teaching methods that inspire high student achievement.
  • Ability to teach visual art in grades 712.
  • Strong direct personal experience in studio arts.
  • Experience teaching in a range of studio art media and methods with an emphasis on drawing printmaking painting and sculpture.
  • Skilled in effective communication.
