Job Summary:
The Mental Health Counselor will join a team of licensed and prelicensed clinicians in the Counseling Center on a private Christian university campus. The Counseling Center utilizes a stepped care model providing customized short term treatment options for undergraduate college students. The mental health counselor is responsible for providing inperson screening/assessment & short term counseling appointments as scheduled.Job Status:

Job Description:
Responsibilities:
Provide mental health assessment followed by brief mental health counseling as appropriate or referral to outside resources.
Administer protocols to manage high risk clinical issues.
Provide mental health assessment to determine immediate risk for selfharm; make appropriate referrals.
Act as a liaison actively collaborate and provide referrals to assist students to access appropriate campus office or department.
Facilitate and/or cofacilitate workshops and groups on mental health topics.
Provide all services within the context of the Counseling Center team.
Support campus community standards in the provision of student services as articulated in the PLNU Student Handbook.
Required Education Experience and Licensure:
Masters degree in Psychology Counseling or related field required.
Valid license or registration as AMFT ASW APCC LMFT LCSW or LPCC in California required. (Prelicensed clinicians will receive supervision by an LMFT in the PLNU Counseling Center as part of weekly work hours)
Experience in the provision of brief mental health counseling.
Understanding of and commitment to the spiritual mission of Point Loma Nazarene University.
Strong track record of interdisciplinary work and collaboration.
Strong understanding of human development especially as related to traditionalaged college students.
Required Skills/Abilities:
Proficient in Google suite and EHR systems
Able to learn new software and charting systems
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Excellent assessment skills
Excellent collaboration skills
Evidence of Christian commitment and active church involvement. In addition staff agree to live in agreement with PLNUs Community Life Covenant.

Physical Requirements:
The work is primarily sedentary and may require sitting for extended periods of time.
Prolonged periods of standing during patient evaluations
Use of computer equipment: computer keyboard mouse and monitor.
Vision to read documents email and other correspondence and reports on paper and computer monitor.
Abiltiy to communicate effectively with others in person and by phone.
Will also stand stoop push pull and lift up to 20 lbs throughout the day.
