This position requires a thorough knowledge of jail procedures. The Corrections Officer has daily contact with the public and is responsible for the general supervision safety and security of inmates and the facility as assigned in his/her duty station. The Corrections Officer is responsible for the preparation of booking data incident and other prisonerrelated reports.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or GED equivalent is required. One 1 year of experience is desirable. Must pass: written test; agility test criminal history background check drug screen physical exam and psychological exam.
CERTIFICATES LICENSES REGISTRATION
Must have a valid Texas drivers license; certification as a Jailer by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) is required within the first year of hire; must meet the minimum standards for enrollment and initial licensure with the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement. Must successfully complete and pass the Comal County Sheriffs Office Physical Readiness Testing Program.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions short correspondence and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in oneonone and small group situations to customers clients and other employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add subtract multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers common fraction and decimals. Ability to compute rate ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
The individual should possess a thorough working knowledge of jail procedures and practices. One 1 year of experience is desirable. Other specialized job requirements include fingerprinting and computer use.

Must be physically fit and pass a physical exam by a medical doctor. In order to meet the physical demands of the job (handling of violent prisoners etc. must have full use of extremities.
The Comal County Sheriffs Office participates in a physical readinesstesting program in accordance with the Comal County Sheriffs Office Physical Fitness Policy. Physical assessments are required twice a year to ensure employees possess the physical capability of performing job related tasks while providing services to Comal County and the citizens of Comal County.
