We are currently looking for aAdverse Incident Team Manager to join ourPatient Safety Monitoring GroupFunctionwithin theSafety and Surveillancegroup.

Please note this opportunity is currently only available to those working within the Civil Service. Applications from nonCivil Servants may not be reviewed and may be rejected.

This is a fulltime opportunity on a permanent promotionbasis. The role will be based in 10 South Colonnade Canary Wharf London E14 4PU. Please be aware that this role can only be worked in the UK and not overseas.

Government departments and agencies are working towards implementing a minimum 60 attendance in office sites.

We are currently implementing a flexible hybrid way of working with a minimum of 8 days per month working on site to enable the collaboration and contact with partners and stakeholders needed to deliver MHRA business. Attendance on site is driven by business needs so depending on the nature of the role this can flex up to 12 days a month with the remainder of time worked either remotely or in the office. Some roles will need to be on site more regularly.

The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency enhance and improve the health of millions of people every day through the effective regulation of medicines and medical devices underpinned by science and research.

The new Safety and Surveillance Group brings together into a single integrated structure devices and medicines safety expertise with enforcement capabilities. These functions will be supported by our data and evidence generating capabilities complementing our signal generating capabilities produced via the new Safety Connect System.

The Patient Safety Monitoring Function is responsible for developing and delivering a world class vigilance system to detect and monitor safety signals for medicines medical devices vaccines and blood products.

Whats the role

To lead one of four Adverse Incident teams within the Adverse Incidents and Signal Analysis team in the Patient Safety Monitoring Function. The teams are responsible for receipt classification and processing of all adverse incident reports responding to vigilance enquiries provision of incident data to stakeholders and vigilance signal detection evaluation and management to ensure product safety issues and risks to public health are identified and evaluated.

Key responsibilities:

  • Manages the daytoday performance and performance management of an incident and signal team to maintain adherence to high level targets and Agency delivery plans.
  • Responsible for prioritising work and workload fluctuations within an incident and signal team and supporting the Head of Adverse Incident and Signal Analysis to ensure appropriate resource is allocated across teams to effectively meet targets.
  • Develops specialist knowledge within an incident and signal team to ensure the team is able to produce all work accurately and to a high standard and to ensure continuing professional development of all staff in the Unit through the Vigilance Competency Framework and other accreditation programmes for career pathway development.
  • Supports Managers in the Patient Safety Monitoring Function on incident management issues and specialist technical areas. Brief wider Committees regarding routine incident management activities as well as emerging/high profile issues when required. Providing timely uptodate and relevant adverse incident information to all stakeholders.

Who are we looking for

Oursuccessful candidatewill:

  • Effective leadership skills to enable the team to develop and deliver work on time and to a high standard.
  • Works effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team to maintain positive working relationships working across boundaries and adding value through strategic thinking.
  • Significant experience of evaluating data from a wide range of sources and in Vigilance Signal Management in order to make effective decisions from the evidence presented.
  • An understanding of the use of information systems involved in the reporting of adverse incidents and signal management to support business processes including sharing information externally with stakeholders.
  • A University degree or equivalent qualification in disciplines such as: pharmacy medicine nursing physiology pharmacology toxicology biological sciences engineering or other appropriate life science.
