Job Description

Position Summary
To develop and implement plans for securing major gifts and deferred gifts from donors through estate planning family funds and other types of future gifts. To diversify funding resources and engage in the long term financial planning through the creation of endowment future gifts and other permanent financial resources. To serve as the Planned Giving and Endowment specialist for training and coaching of staff and trustees.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and elevate the planned giving program in alignment with the Mission Vision and Core Values of Thornwell
  • Identify and contact both planned giving and endowment prospects (on your own and in coordination with Prospect Research)
  • Collaborate on the development of marketing materials (e.g. web direct mail)
  • Manage stewardship of planned and endowment gift donors who have already established or have newly committed to a planned gift and/or family fund
  • Write compelling cases for support and proposals for both planned and endowment giving; must be able to create blended gift proposals that are congruent with the organizations goals
  • Coordinate the strategy for prospects with the Vice President for Mission Advancement and the Director of Annual Fund Operations
  • Educate prospective donors staff volunteers (including trustees) about planned giving and endowment family funds
  • Track planned giving and family fund data and reporting updates to the Vice President for Mission Advancement (in coordination with the Mission Advancement Operations and Business Offices)
  • Follow business rules and maintain documentation of data and reporting protocols. Assist in the development and implementation of best practices for the management of the CRM and research databases (DonorSearch Fundriver/Balance Crescendo). This includes the assurance of database policies and procedures data integrity data extraction report customization and analysis.
  • Provide training on Planned Giving and Endowment to both internal and external audiences. This includes orientation of new staff and specialized training in response to changing roles and business processes. Work to formalize a process and provide regular training.
  • Collaborate with Advancement and Leadership Staff in fundraising by providing background information for additional donor development identification of donors churches and other target groups.
  • Collaborate on Planned Gift and Endowment appeal and donor communications mailings. This includes discovery marketing (e.g. search letters)
  • Respond courteously and quickly to people requesting information regarding Thornwells Legacy and Endowment giving programs (via Gift Legacy et al.
  • Coordinate with the operations data team to maintain accurate files for Estates and Trusts. Communicate any updates to the Vice President for Mission Advancement
  • Upon approval by Vice President for Mission Advancement attend continuing education programs that will help maintain stateoftheart working knowledge of procedures and systems used in your work.
  • Create and maintain monthly Revenue Forecast.
  • Develop reports for the Mission Advancement Committee Meetings
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the Vice President for Mission Advancement
Qualifications
  • At least five years experience in resource development legacy giving endowment donor relations or related field with a record of demonstrated success
  • Detailed indepth knowledge of planned giving endowments and their terminology
  • Ability to analyze data to identify prospects
  • Experience and success in managing relationships and securing support from individuals giving $25000
  • Ability to assess the needs of planned giving and endowment donors
  • Desire and ability to work in a teamoriented work environment
  • Ability to tactfully negotiate maintain confidentiality and to respect and observe organizational protocols
  • Ability to motivate and manage donors
  • Excellent written and verbal communication public speaking administrative and interpersonal skills
  • Event planning and management budget development and management skills
  • Computer skills including donor management via CRM (Bloomerang) Microsoft Office Suite and presentation software
  • Ability to travel 40 of the time to work in a variety of locations throughout the southeast primary in Florida Georgia and South Carolina.
  • Excellent organizational skills required
  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision
