POSITION TITLE: HVAC Technician I

WAGE RANGE: $26.40 $27.60 per hour DOE

Position Summary:
Conducts a variety of skilled maintenance duties and performs general and preventive diagnostics maintenance installation service and repair for heating ventilation and air conditioning systems and equipment. Honors and represents the mission vision values of CIT and the Public Works department.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Assists HVAC II in Locating and diagnoses maintenance problems on equipment; conducts system checks and routine maintenance; and completes minor repairs of existing HVAC systems under HVAC II supervision
- Cleans equipment and changes filters when needed.
- Ensures adherence to local HVAC codes; follows blueprints and building plans.
- Operates equipment control systems and thermostats.
- Uses power and hand tools safely and effectively; adheres to safety procedures and utilizes safety apparel as appropriate with attention to minimizing the risk of injury.
- Identifies maintenance risks on equipment and diagnoses electrical and mechanical faults for HVAC systems; conducts repairs under HVAC II supervision.
- Advises HVAC Tech II of the need for major repairs or additions to lighting heating cooling and ventilating equipment.
- Assist HVAC II with Training as appropriate.
- Maintains appropriate records on equipment warranties inspections and work performed.
- Inventories and requests or orders equipment parts and supplies.
- Sets up and takes down furniture and equipment as requested.
- Assists with building maintenance and light cleaning; conducts minor painting plumbing carpentry and other routine maintenance activities.
- Installs structures and fixtures constructs frameworks and replaces damaged framework structures and fixtures as required.
- Reports and responds to emergency calls for heating and cooling matters.
- Responds to service requests on a 24hour basis and travels to other sites as required.
- Contributes to a team effort and accomplishes related results as required.
- Performs other duties as assigned by HVAC Tech II.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of building maintenance or construction including heating and air conditioning systems building codes safety regulations and practices and blueprints and schematic reading and interpretations.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and applicable safety practices and of OSHA requirements.
- Skill in the safe operation of power and hand tools and equipment.
- Ability to work flexible hours including weekends and evenings.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to follow verbal or written instructions.
- Ability to prioritize and accomplish tasks within strict deadlines.
- Ability to interact and maintain good working relationships with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma/GED.
- Must be 18 years of age.
- Two years experience in HVAC work.
- State HVAC license and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) certification for refrigerants.
- Valid drivers license is required when driving vehicles for workrelated purposes.
- Must be able to successfully pass a background screening / investigation according to the established requirements below.
Tribal preference in accordance with Cowlitz Indian Tribe Code and CIT Employee Policies and Procedures Handbook shall apply to all positions. All positions are required to adhere to CITs established safety policies regarding vaccine requirements and personal protective equipment (PPE).
Background Investigation Requirements:
- Preemployment drug screen.
- Reference checks education and employment verification.
- Federal state and/or tribal criminal history and sanction checks including fingerprint verification.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job the employee frequently is required to stand and walk; use hands to finger handle or feel; talk or hear; and reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to stoop bend kneel and climb. Specific vision abilities required by this job include clarity of vision at close distances. The employee frequently will lift and/or carry objects up to 20 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds.
Work Environment:
Work is regularly performed in an interior setting and in an outdoor environment. Exposure to dirt dust fumes and cleaning agents will occur. Exposure to unpleasant odors excessive noise and hazardous materials and situations will occur. Work is frequently performed near hazardous and/or moving equipment or machinery. Situations will occur where protective clothing equipment devices and materials are needed. Evening and/or weekend work may be required; on occasion emergency afterhours work may be required.
