This post is a Fixed Term Appointment until 31st March 2026.
The Business Analysis team sits within the Service Management and Service Development branch which is responsible for the maintenance and further development of the live benefit services being delivered to clients. Our Business Analysis practice will continually respond and support emerging business requirements whilst providing technical analysis of our various digital platforms.
Business analysts help teams to:
Analyse and understand a business problem or opportunity.
Undertake research and analysis to understand how a business or business area works considering the people organisation processes information data and technology.
Identify areas for improvement explore feasible options analyse the effects of change and define success measures.
Identify and elaborate user and business needs to enable effective design.
Development and testing of services and business change.
Make decisions related to prioritisation and minimum viable product by using analysis led insights.
Ensure new products and services meet business and user needs and are aligned with organisational goals.
Understand any business and policy constraints that need to be considered and assess the implications.
A senior business analyst has a good understanding of strategic arenas and leads large or complex projects.
Responsibilities
As a Senior Business Analyst you will be responsible for the definition and investigation of operational needs assisting in service improvement recommendations and business solutions.You will already have a good understanding of strategic arenas and have experience of leading large and complex projects.
Plan and lead large areas of Business Analysis delivery owning the challenge and driving through to successful conclusions.
Investigate strategic and business needs and develop recommendations of service improvement and business solutions.
Support in producing business and digital solution materials e.g. using business and user requirements to produce technical specifications or business benefit analysis in support of business cases.
Lead on communicating with stakeholders clarifying needs and commitments through consultation and consideration of consequences while focusing on user and business needs.
Develop or apply communication strategies to build relationships using informal and formal channels to engage with stakeholders at all levels and resolving conflict where required.
Identify and capitalise on improvement opportunities and identifying innovative ways to increase customer satisfaction through good user centred service design.
Provide effective consultancy and advice to customers and stakeholders.
Have people management responsibilities and support mentoring across teams as required.
Using digital subject matter knowledge to investigate and define operational needs and identify potential options for enhanced outcomes.
Work closely with Service Design to define a design and analysis methodology to ensure our approach meets the customer needs.
Work in line with the applicable Digital and Data standards in the Scottish Government including the Scottish Service Standards and the Scottish Approach to Service Design.
Supporting requirements gathering for procurement exercise developing business cases.
Actively participates in the Digital Data and Technology (DDaT) Business Analysis practice events.

Essential Experience
Demonstrable experience of delivering business analysis across a range of digital projects supporting the delivery of organisational visions and goals.

DDaT Pay Supplement
This post is part of the Scottish Government Digital Data and Technology (DDAT) profession and as a member of the profession you will join the professional development system. This post currently attracts a 5000 annual DDAT pay supplement applicable after a 3 months competency qualifying period. The payment will be backdated to your start date in the role. Pay supplements are reviewed regularly and there is one currently underway. Changes will be communicated when the review is concluded.
Working pattern
Our standard hours are 35 hours per week and we offer a range of flexible working options depending on the needs of the role. We embrace a hybrid working style where all colleagues will spend time in either our Glasgow or Dundee offices.
