ABOUT THE ROLE
Senecas School Partnership Programs is hiring for a Behavior Support Specialist to guide grades TK5 to success at Cox Academy in Oakland CA. As a Behavior Support Specialist you will work collaboratively with a dedicated team to provide a holistic humanizing and empowering learning environment for students. In addition you will be responsible for administering intensive intervention programs to identified students and have the opportunity to coach model and develop opportunities for school staff!
ABOUT THE UE LIGHT THE CHANGE PROGRAM
Senecas Unconditional Education Light the Change Program partners with 8 charter schools in Oakland; including charter management networks Education for Change Lighthouse Community Public Schools and Envision Academy. Our goal is to provide essential mental health services to youth in grades Kindergarten 12th in their neighborhood. We provide targeted early interventions to help students overcome behavioral and emotional challenges while minimizing referrals to a more restrictive school environment. Responsibilities
- Work collaboratively within a transdisciplinary team including teachers counselors specialists and program leadership
- Build therapeutic relationships that help students engage and achieve personalized goals
- Support the assessment planning and implementation of specialized student plans including individualized education plans (IEP) Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP) and 504 plans
- Plan lead and coach student group activities for academics social skills and recreation
- Support Positive Behavior Intervention Systems (PBIS) through individual classroom and schoolwide coaching and training
- Provide direct coaching for teachers and support staff to build skills and increase behavioral intervention capacity
- Deliver direct behavioral intervention that reduces behaviors impeding school success and promotes positive behaviors for learning and community participation
- Complete required data collection and service documentation to measure the effectiveness of services inform team decision making and/or engage in service billing
- Communicate effectively with families and all others involved in the students daily life including other Seneca programs or external agencies
- Utilize crisis communication and deescalation techniques as per Senecas crisis response training
- This may include intervening with the students behavioral program through physical management
Qualifications
- Education/Experience requirements:
- Bachelors degree 2 years of applicable experience OR
- Associate degree 3 year of applicable experience OR
- High school diploma/GED 4 years of applicable experience
- Applicable experience is defined as experience working with children who exhibit extremely challenging behaviors
- Reliable transportation to and from the school site and other occasional meeting locations
- TB test clearance fingerprinting clearance and any other state/federal licensing or certification requirements
- Must show proof of COVID19 vaccination
Schedule
- School based schedule:
- Monday to Friday: 8 AM 4:30 PM (ability to work occasional flexible schedule when school needs vary)
- 5 weeks of paid time off 11 paid holidays and 14 paid school break days
Benefits
- Starting at $29.71 $32.21per hour
- Actual salary dependent on creditable experience above the minimum qualifications
