Be a part of a worldclass academic healthcare system UChicago Medicine Care Network as a Medical Assistant at our Tinley Park clinic. Here you will work alongside our Primary Care team. This position is a 100 onsite opportunity. You will need to be based in the greater Chicagoland area.

Eligible for a SignOn Bonus up to $1500!

UChicago Medicine Tinley Park offers quick and convenient specialty and primary care for the whole family. Our teams care for children teens adults and senior citizens who need annual exams immunizations treatment for injuries or help managing chronic illnesses. We also offer onsite urgent aid laboratory testing Xrays DEXA scans screening mammography lung cancer screening stress tests and rehabilitation services.

A Medical Assistant UCM Care Network is an employee who performs a wide variety of patient care services under the direct supervision of a registered nurse midlevel provider or physician in an office setting.

Essential Job Functions

  • Fulfills patient care responsibilities as assigned that may include checking schedules and organizing patient flow; accompanying patients to exam/procedure room; assisting patients as needed with walking transfers dressing collecting specimens (drawing blood if required by practice) preparing for exam etc.; collecting patient history; performing screenings per provider guidelines; assisting physicians/nurses with various procedures; charting; relaying instructions to patients/families; answering calls and providing pertinent information
  • Fulfills clerical responsibilities as assigned that may include sending/receiving patient medical records; obtaining lab/Xray reports hospital notes referral information etc.; completing forms/requisitions as needed; (receptionist coverage when required by practice); scheduling appointments; (billing and coding for insurance purposes if required by practice); verifying insurance coverage and patient demographics; (collecting copays and documenting receipt if required by practice); managing and updating charts to ensure that information is complete and filed appropriately
  • Fulfills environmental responsibilities as assigned that may include setting up instruments and equipment according to practice protocols; cleaning exam/procedure rooms instruments and equipment between patient visits to maintain infection control; cleaning sterilizer according to scheduled maintenance program and keeping appropriate records; ordering sorting storing supplies; and restocking exam/procedure rooms
  • Fulfills organizational responsibilities as assigned including respecting/promoting patient rights; responding appropriately to emergency codes; sharing problems relating to patients and/or staff with immediate supervisor
  • Fulfills clinical medical assisting responsibilities that vary according to state law which may include medical/surgical asepsis sterilization instrument wrapping and autoclaving; checking vital signs or mensuration; physical examination preparations; clinical pharmacology; drug administration through various routes including injections (immunizations for various age groups); prescription verifications with physicians orders; minor surgery assists including surgical tray setup pre/postsurgical care applying dressings and suture removal; biohazard waste disposal and monitoring; therapeutic modalities; instructing patients with assistive devices body mechanics and home care; laboratory procedures including Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) guidelines; quality control methods; CLIAwaived testing; capillary punctures and venipunctures; specimen handling such as urine throat vaginal stool and sputum; electrocardiography including mounting emergency triage and first aid. Medical assistants must adhere to the MA scope of practice in the laboratory.
  • Performs other duties assigned

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Graduate of a certified program for Medical Assistants
  • Active BLS certification from the American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Phlebotomy training; Phlebotomist license and work experience if required by practice
  • Minimum of one year of recent experience working in a medical office/facility
  • Experience with practice specialty
  • Able to partner with teams in small to large practice groups
  • Certified Medical Assistant

Preferred Qualifications

  • Considerable skill in communicating verbally determining priorities and in organizing work; ability to maintain an organized alphabetized filing system
  • General working knowledge of PC: Excel Microsoft Word for Windows and EPIC
  • Computerized appointment scheduling experience
  • Ability to handle stress in a fastpaced environment
  • Considerable skill in handling sensitive public contacts with discretion tact and courtesy when dealing with patients coworkers and physicians
  • Physical ability to perform stocking lifting and transporting supplies and instruments

Compensation & Benefits Overview

UChicago Medicine is committed to transparency in compensation and benefits. The pay range provided reflects the anticipated wage or salary reasonably expected to be offered for the position.

The pay range is based on a fulltime equivalent 1.0 FTE) and is reflective of current market data reviewed on an annual basis. Compensation offered at the time of hire will vary based on candidate qualifications and experience and organizational considerations such as internal equity. Pay ranges for employees subject to Collective Bargaining Agreements are negotiated by the medical center and their respective union.
