JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
The Department of Campus Recreation is seeking Penn State students to fill the position of Activity Specialist. Activity Specialists will provide specialized instruction directly related to managing the risks associated with adventure activities.
Primary responsibilities include training Trip Leaders teaching skillbased clinics and workshops and leading outdoor adventure trips and activities. Activity Specialists should possess 2 or more years of outdoor leadership experience and be able to show (in the form of an experience log) and/or demonstrate competency with skills and knowledge in one or more of the following activities: backpacking caving rock climbing ice climbing mountaineering fly fishing canoeing kayaking stand up paddle boarding whitewater rafting or wilderness medicine instruction. Possession of a nationally recognized certification preferred (American Mountain Guide Association American Canoe Association Wilderness Education Association Wilderness Medical Institute etc.. Wilderness First Aid (WFA) and CPR (or higher) required.
Campus Recreation is a department within Student Affairs that provides fitness wellness and recreational programs to the campus community through the operation and administration of the new expanded and renovated 200000 sf Intramural Building the McCoy Natatorium the 700acre Stone Valley Outdoor Recreation Area a Tennis Center including six clay courts and four indoor courts the White Building Outdoor Adventures Aquatics Club Sports Fitness and Wellness Programs and Intramural Sports.
This job requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. A valid USdrivers license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be requiredin addition to standard background checks.
