Carta is in search of an experienced Design Director to join an exceptional bench of Design Leaders responsible for creating and shipping innovative digital product experiences across the company. We are looking for a Director who is visionary in approach passionate about leading complex high impact projects and influencing product strategy through design vision. This person will be dedicated to the Private Equity vertical where they will lead high impact design projects and a small team of designers focused on solving the complex needs of private equity. Youll be scaling the Carta platform to work for all the nuances of the most strategic and complex customers in private markets.
Our ideal candidate is savvy curious enjoys working crossfunctionally and can masterfully communicate vision to leadership. They can advocate for the nerdiness of design craft in addition to the business case of a given design direction. This person must be a selfstarter who can work through ambiguity to define key initiatives lead teams through projects from start to finish and align the broader R&D organization around these initiatives. We are looking for someone who can inspire fellow designers and stakeholders and lead with both user empathy and conviction.
As a Design Director you will play a crucial role throughout the organization influencing the future of Carta products. Youll have the opportunity to design for a range of customer and user archetypes including: CFOs company founders employees vesting equity investors law firms tax experts and our Carta service and delivery colleagues.
Additionally you will:
- Develop pitch and defend product strategy and design direction to the Carta executive suite
- Lead teams to deeply understand user needs and drive alignment around solutions to core business problems by creating models concept diagrams workflow diagrams and journey maps
- Be hands on designing flows sketches prototypes (at Carta we have a culture of leaders who lead by doing)
- Work cross functionally to drive implementation and adoption of your product
- Lead design reviews and mentor other designers and stakeholders to uplevel their UI/UX design skills
- Contribute to building a strong human centered design organization
About You
The ideal candidate is passionate about building intuitive solutions for complex problems that provide direct value to users and enjoys driving strategy ideation prioritization problem solving and product delivery. If that sounds like you we would love to talk to you. In our search were prioritizing:
- 12 years of product design experience with at least 4 years focused on solving complex enterprise SaaS challenges
- A strong portfolio of case studies that demonstrate a successful track record of humancentered design solutions that address strategic business problems
- Deep expertise in UI/UX craft; passion for visual design interaction details typography and pixel perfect deliverables
- Experience influencing crossfunctional teams to adopt bold design solutions
- Exceptional communication and storytelling skills that allow you to convey the value of your design solutions.
- Ability to work in a dynamic environment balancing rigor and spiness.
- High comfort level with ambiguity; openness to critique from other disciplines and curiosity to learn from a spectrum of perspectives.
- Passion for mentoring designers and teaching about design craft and quality
- Experience actively managing designers at different stages of their careers
- A love of getting hands dirty and leading from the front
- Nicetohave: experience with finance venture capital or private equity
Salary
We are hiring for multiple levels and locations so final offers may vary from the amounts listed based on geography experience and expertise and other factors.
Cartas compensation package includes a market competitive salary equity for all full time roles exceptional benefits and for applicable roles commissions plans. Our minimum cash compensation (salary commission if applicable) range for this role is:
- $225000 $300000 in San Francisco CA; Santa Clara CA; New York NY
- $214000 $285000 in Seattle WA
Final offers may vary from the amount listed based on geography candidate experience and expertise and other factors.
