Role Definition
- We have an exciting opportunity open within Caterpillar as a Data Scientist for the Excavation Division. In this role you will have the opportunity to be part of the team that develops analytical tools to help provide valuable financial and operational insights to Senior Leadership.
What You Will Do:
- Directing the data gathering data mining and data processing processes in huge volume; creating appropriate data models
- Leading to define requirements and scope of data analyses presenting and reporting business insights to management using data visualization technologies.
- Complete projects by utilizing knowledge of statistical approaches data management techniques and/or related digital technologies.
- Interact with internal customers directly to understand the business problem and create technical requirements as well as develop and deploy solution.
- Create and deliver best practice recommendations tutorials and presentations adapted to technical business and executive stakeholder(s)
What You Have:
- Business Statistics: Knowledge of the statistical tools processes and practices to describe business results in measurable scales; ability to use statistical tools and processes to assist in making business decisions.
- Accuracy and Attention to Detail: Understanding the necessity and value of accuracy; ability to complete tasks with high levels of precision.
- Analytical Thinking: Knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems.
- Programming Languages: Knowledge of basic concepts and capabilities of programming; ability to use tools techniques and platforms to write and modify programming languages.
- Query and Database Access Tools: Knowledge of data management systems; ability to use support and access facilities for searching extracting and formatting data for further use.
- Requirements Analysis: Knowledge of tools methods and techniques of requirement analysis; ability to elicit analyze and record required business functionality and nonfunctionality requirements to ensure the success of a system or software development project.
Top Candidates Will Have:
- A fouryear degree (Bachelors) from an accredited college or university or equivalent professional experience.
- Professional experience in data analytics or data science role
- Intermediate understanding of SQL concepts and professional experience with database management (SQL Server Snowflake PostgreSQL etc.
- Prior experience in designing and developing software applications in an ObjectOriented Programming language such as Python or Java
- Experience with data visualization tooling (Power BI Tableau etc.
- Basic understanding of CI/CD version control and Git / GitHub best practices
Additional Info:
- The primary location for this position is Peoria IL.
- Domestic relocation is available.
- Must be able to work 3 days ONSITE.
- Travel up to 15.

Summary Pay Range:
$95640.00 $155400.00Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors job level market locationjobrelated knowledge skills individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
