Job Description

The Role

This is an exciting opportunity for a candidate eager to help market participants understand what is happening and what is likely to happen in the base metals markets (copper aluminium lead zinc nickel and tin). You will collect analyse and deliver the data and insights that Fastmarkets clients need to navigate these critical markets while managing their risks. As a Base Metals Analyst you will be a key contributor to the teams analysis of supply and demand the structure and dynamics of the market the drivers of price changes and how these metals are traded in the physical and Futures markets. You will contribute directly to the teams supply demand and price forecasts along with the drivers of those forecasts.  

You will be joining a dynamic global team of researchers dedicated to understanding these everchanging markets. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fastpaced and innovative environment have a cando attitude and can juggle a wide variety of tasks and projects.

Principal accountabilities

  • Lead the collection cleaning and validation of the data and information necessary for Fastmarkets base metals forecasts.
  • Analyse the base metals markets based on supply and demand exchange and technical data as well as how economic and nonfundamental drivers affect markets and prices.
  • Explain with authority their views on the market.
  • Develop and improve data sets used in their analysis working with data scientists to build models that automate workflows and provides advanced analytics.       
  • Develop and maintain a network of contacts in the industry by attending and speaking at conferences and webinars and engaging with customers and market participants.
  • Provide insights and inputs within the Base Metals team and to wider teams (sales marketing and product development) to improve product offerings and ensure our data and insights continually meet and exceed client expectations.                                                                                                                                
  • Contribute to and author regular reports and take an active part in client meetings.
  • Support client and internal inquiries about the markets and be accountable for fulfilling requests for bespoke insight and data.

KNOWLEDGE EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

We are looking for an individual who is highly motivated driven and have a passion to be part of a fastpaced successful team. Being a strong team player is also important as well as someone who is happy to work flexibly.

  • Knowledge of experience or keen interest in commodities (preferably in metals) including internship(s).
  • Strong writing and verbal English
  • Deep interest in markets
  • Strong in excel or other data management tools
  • Excellent data management skills including fundamental knowledge of relational databases APIs and data automation 
  • Analytical/mathematical/econometric modelling skills a plus
  • Appreciation of advanced statistical modelling and forecasting some exposure to machine learning a plus 
  • A team player
