Who We Are:
Heritage Park is Canadas largest living history museum and offers visitors a chance to experience life in Western Canada from the 1860s to the early 1950s. The Park features historical buildings costumed interpreters working antiques and various exhibits that provide insight into the regions past.
Job Overview:
The Financial Analyst is responsible for ensuring the integrity of the organizations financial performance by managing financial reporting analysis and reconciliation. The Financial Analyst will also assist with the budget process payroll GL activities and support the VP of Finance with financial reports and insights. This position requires a strong understanding of accounting principles financial analysis and reporting processes. The role will work closely with other finance team members to ensure the accurate and timely management of all financial records without direct management of staff.
Responsibilities:
Financial Management and Reporting
- Prepare and analyze profit and loss statements ensuring accurate reporting of revenue expenses and profitability
- Generate financial reports for management and assist the VP of Finance in creation of reports for the Board of Directors focusing on financial position capital spending cashflows earnings and net worth
- Perform variance analysis on actual financial performance compared to budgets forecasts and prior periods providing insights and recommendations for improvement
- Produce adhoc financial reports and analysis to support decisionmaking on various projects including acquisitions capital expenditures or new initiatives
- Evaluate internal controls and processes identifying gaps or inefficiencies that could lead to errors or financial misreporting
- Present complex financial data to senior leaders offering actionable insights and recommendations to guide decisionmaking.
Reconciliation and Payroll GL
- Reconcile financial transactions including capital asset and revenue/expenditure accounts ensuring accuracy and compliance with internal controls
- Oversee payroll GL activities ensuring accurate posting of payrollrelated expenses and reconciliations
- Maintain uptodate records for all funding sources grants and donations ensuring proper tracking reporting and compliance with donor requirements
- Support monthend and yearend reconciliation processes ensuring accurate financial reporting and adherence to accounting standards
Total Compensation Benefits Administration HR Policies & HRIS Management
- Ensure accuracy and integrity of HR data within the HRIS system regularly updating records(manage changes leaves and offboarding) and generating reports as needed. Maintain organized and uptodate electronic and physical HR files.
- Coordinate the administration of compensationrelated processes including salary benchmarking and pay adjustments.
- Administer employee benefits programs (Sunlife Pension plan Perks) including enrollment claims support and employee inquiries. Assist in monthly audits.
- Support the implementation and communication of HR policies ensuring employees are informed of updates and guidelines.
- Identify opportunities to enhance People & Culture processes and leverage technology to increase efficiency and improve the employee experience.
Budgeting Forecasting and Financial Planning
- Assist with the preparation of annual budgets collaborating with department heads to ensure alignment with organizational goals and objectives
- Contribute to financial forecasting providing insights and adjustments as necessary to meet organizational target
- Continuously review and enhance financial processes to improve efficiency and ensure accuracy in reporting reconciliation and compliance
- Assist in cost analysis for specific projects assessing financial feasibility ROI and potential risks working directly with department leaders
Governance & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with internal policies and statutory requirements supporting audit processes as needed.
Organizational Excellence and Wellbeing
- Contribute to inspiring and immersive experiences at the Park through your roles and responsibilities by engaging in Heritage Park initiatives that align with the overall mission and vision of the Park
- Demonstrate commitment to workplace health and safety by complying with Heritage Parks Health Safety and Environment Management System (HSEMS) following safe work practices reporting workrelated incidents injuries and hazards participating in employer training and adhering policies including the Code of Conduct and the Workplace Violence and Harassment Policy
- Actively support a positive work environment through creating an atmosphere of inclusion engagement and fulfillment in line with Heritage Park values
- Demonstrate responsible stewardship of our people collections and financial assets by ensuring that they are handled with integrity sustainability and a focus on longterm benefits for the organization and its stakeholders
Required Qualifications:
- A university degree in Finance Accounting Business Administration or a related field is required
- CPA CMA CFA or equivalent designation or working towards one is preferred
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in finance and accounting with a focus on financial analysis reporting and reconciliation
- Proven experience in budgeting financial forecasting and report preparation for senior management and boardlevel presentations
- Strong understanding of payroll GL processes and the ability to conduct detailed reconciliations
- Demonstrated proficiency with financial reporting software (including Jet Reports) and Excel for analysis and reporting; experience with Business Central is an asset
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with crossfunctional teams
- All successful candidates (over the age of 18 will be required to undergo a Police Information Check as a condition of employment.
