Job Description
Fuse is on a mission to accelerate the worlds transition to fusion energy. Our core product is TITAN: an Impedance Matched Marx Generator (IMG). TITAN is the most efficient and powerful (TW) machine of its kind. Fusers have also built and licensed 2 novel pulsed power generators.
Each Team member will be intimately familiar with Fuses machines and will put their mechanical abilities to the test as they assemble them according to the Engineers exacting specifications. Team members also have to have a deep reserve of problemsolving skills to quickly troubleshoot issues that arise. They usually cant wait to get home to tinker in their shop. Theyre the people you want to call when something goes wrong.
You are joining an earlystage fusion company. Please expect to wear different hats and take 0 to 1 ownership of objectives. Changing the world is hard but honorable and fulfilling. You should expect to work extremely hard to make a dent. This is not a regular job. Fusers are on a mission to change the world.
As a machinist/programmer you will play a key role in manufacturing TITAN components ensuring precision and quality in all parts. This position will focus on operating and programming Haas CNC machines ensuring that all machined parts meet the highest standards required. You will collaborate closely with design engineering to manufacture parts for both prototypes and production contributing directly to missioncritical projects.
Role
- Set up and operate CNC mills lathes 4 axis y axis turning) selecting appropriate tooling to ensure precision machining of parts.
- Write and edit programs for CNC machines (HAAS) to fabricate components. Optimize machine cycles for productivity and accuracy.
- Select and create tooling setups based on part requirements. Use inspection tools such as calipers micrometers and evaluate inspection reports from Coordinate Measurement Machines (CMMs) to verify the dimensions and quality of parts.
- Run multiple CNC machines simultaneously scheduling jobs effectively to maximize production output without compromising quality.
- Work with design engineering teams to help with manufacturability design considerations and material suitability. Assist in resolving any nonconformance issues during the machining process.
- Maintain accurate documentation of part configuration.
- Identify defects during the manufacturing process and write nonconformance tickets to communicate issues and initiate resolution processes.
- Procure materials needed for machining jobs as per project requirements.
- Assist in training new employees and provide guidance to other machinists in the shop on CNC programming machining processes and best practices.
Minimum Requirements
- High school diploma (or GED) and at least 4 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience in CNC machining
- 3 years of professional experience on setup and operation of CNC mills and/or lathes
- 3 years of professional experience reading Gcode and programming CNC machine
- Skilled in using inspection tools such as CMM calipers micrometers and other precision measuring instruments to verify dimensions and ensure quality standards are met. Strong understanding of GD&T and its applications.
- Familiar with SolidWorks Fusion CAD/CAM Mastercam or other CAM software for part programming and design interpretation.
- Possesses a solid foundation in geometric trigonometric and practical shop mathematics enabling the application of fractional decimal and conversion calculations to machining processes.
- Develop and implement comprehensive maintenance procedures for all machining equipment ensuring they are easily understood and executable by any qualified technician.
- Establish and maintain a detailed maintenance log and a wellorganized system for tracking equipment service repairs and preventative maintenance guaranteeing seamless operational continuity.
Additional Requirements
- Must be capable of acquiring forklift operator certification.Ability to drive a forklift and/or scissor lift
- May be required to work extended hours or weekend shifts to meet timesensitive project goals.
- Must be able to travel and work.
Physical Requirements
- Capable of maintaining a fixed position either standing or seated for extended durations during machine operation.
- Can lift transport and place items weighing up to 25 pounds. Skilled in utilizing manual tools and precise measurement equipment and able to contribute to the setup of assembly test fixtures.
- May occasionally be required to lift and move substantial or large items weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Requires consistent mobility within the manufacturing shop to run and maintain a range of machinery.
Safety
- Maintain consistent use of required PPE including eye protection hearing protection face protection hand protection and protective footwear.
- Implement lockout/tagout procedures conduct routine equipment safety inspections and maintain safe machine operation practices.
- Comply with all safety regulations encompassing the proper management and disposal of hazardous substances.
Bonus
- Experience in programming and operating Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs).
- Understanding of the appropriate procedures for cleaning packaging and documenting components.
- Experience with composite materials and their associated fabrication methodologies.
- Welding expertise including TIG UltraHigh Vacuum TIG Electron Beam Welding or other joining methods.
- A working knowledge of metal fabrication techniques for sheet metal and or structural components.
$30 $60 an hour
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors including jobrelated knowledge skills and experience.
