Job Description

Introduction

Main Purpose of Job

This position is in the Firearms/Toolmarks Unit. The main purpose of this position is to test firearms for operability write reports triage ammunition components assist with inventory quality control measures and communicate with other agency representatives as needed.

POSITION DUTIES

Complete training in and subsequently conduct triage / screening of fired evidence cartridge cases for entry into NIBIN

Complete test fire operability training conduct test fires and the processing of test fire submissions under the Operation Test Shot and WalkIn Test Fire programs

Enter evidence and test fire cartridge cases into NIBIN as assigned by examiners

Prepare and issue clearly written reports of completed cases and NIBIN notifications

Administratively review cases

Transport evidence between FSD locations as needed


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience:Two years of experience with administrative functions or handling/inventorying evidence.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute the possession of an Associate of Arts degree from an accredited college or university for the required experience.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a noncommissioned officer in Administration classifications or Administrative Clerical or Office Services specialty codes in the Administrative support field of work on a yearforyear basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

1. Experience in handling / firing weapons and familiarization with firearm safety practices

2. Experience in a court of law testifying as to chain of custody or evidence handling procedures to include triage of firearms related evidence

3. Experience with the National Integrated Ballistic Information Network (NIBIN)

LICENSES REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees will be required to possess a motor vehicle operators license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1.Employees in this classification may be required to testify in a court of law as an expert witness about the chain of custody and laboratory procedures.

2.Employees in this classification are subject to random drug testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulation 10.04.09 Testing for Illegal Use of .

3.Employees in this classification are subject to call out 24 hours a day and; therefore are required to provide a telephone number where they can be reached.

4 accordance with Public Safety Article Section 2204 (b) 6 of the Annotated Code of Maryland candidates for positions in this classification will be subject to an initial drug screening a physical examination submission of a DNA sample and a complete criminal background investigation to include a polygraph examination before permanent appointment can be made. A criminal conviction may be grounds for rejection of the candidate.

SELECTION PROCESS

Only candidates who meet the minimum qualifications will be considered for this classification. It is therefore essential that you provide complete and accurate information on your application. Successful candidates will be placed on an Eligible List categorized as BEST QUALIFIED BETTER QUALIFIED or QUALIFIED and remain eligible for at least one year from the date of examination. The list will be used by the hiring manager to select the individual to fill the vacancy.

EXAMINATION PROCESS

The examination will consist of your education training and experience related to the requirements of the position. You may be required to complete a qualifications supplement or the rating may be based on your application. Applicants will be subject to an interview background investigation polygraph examination and substance abuse testing.
