Job Summary:

The Arizona Department of Juvenile Corrections is seeking an Occupational Therapist (OT) to work under the direction and leadership of the Clinical Director of Psychological Services. This position will provide occupational therapy treatment and services to patients with physical and/or emotional handicaps based upon Arizona Department of Juvenile Corrections and American Occupational Therapy Association established standards of care for juveniles. The Occupational Therapist will oversee the operations of therapeutic crisis interventions such as: The Sensory Integration (SI) documents patient goals progress treatment plans changes in treatment discharge summaries and will participate as an interdisciplinary treatment team member.

Job Duties:

Oversee and manage treatment program development delivery and monitor progress
Evaluates with physicians other disciplines and higher level therapists the neurophysiologic and psychosocial needs of individuals and adapts the various techniques of occupational therapy to meet these needs
Conducts therapy with individuals and groups in accordance with treatment plans and specific methodologies and techniques
Attends client meetings; participates in discussions and problem solving processes. Participates in establishing and maintaining a safe orderly and therapeutic work environment
Maintains appropriate clinical and administrative records regarding diagnosis treatment and summary of client progress
Conducts and participates in inservice training and staff development programs for regularly employed staff
Designs and constructs adaptive assistive and supportive equipment for use of clients to improve behavioral management support juveniles transition from correctional setting to the community setting
Chooses treatment modalities for their ability to produce predetermined goals such as increased sensory motor integration and/or increased awareness of and ability to cope with ones surroundings and interpersonal relationships
Performs other duties as assigned

Knowledge Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge of:
Effective juvenile practices and behavior modification techniques
Federal and State laws regarding the treatment of juveniles
Scope of occupational therapy and its relationship to other health care professions
Practices and techniques of occupational therapy

Skill in:
Communicate verbally and in writing
Designing and adapting therapeutic programs
Evaluate clients needs and plan therapeutic treatment programs
Applying occupational therapy techniques
Apply the principles and practices of work leadership and management

Ability to:
Learn and apply Arizona Department of Juvenile Corrections policies and procedures
Work in a correctional environment
Collaborate with government personnel and multi disciplinary teams

Selective Preference(s):

The ideal candidate shall possess a Masters or Doctoral Degree in Occupational Therapy.

PreEmployment Requirements:

REQUIRED: Must have the ability to maintain an Arizona State License to practice Occupational Therapy and/or a Temporary License to practice.

If this position requires driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function on the job then the following requirements apply. Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current valid classappropriate drivers license complete all required training and successfully pass all necessary drivers license records checks. The license must be current unexpired and neither revoked or suspended. Employees who drive on state business are subject to drivers license record checks must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete all driver training. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C. R210207.010.
