Description

Position Objective:

The Cook is responsible for assisting the Kitchen Supervisors in preparing high quality and nutritious meals in a manner consistent with MHAs mission vision and values.

General Qualifications:

The Kitchen Cook is a Ministerial Support position. Ministerial Support staff serve in operational and service support roles and are not required to personally affirm Mount Hermon Association Inc.s (MHA) Christian mission vision and beliefs. However it is expected that staff who fill these roles no matter their personal beliefs respect work in harmony with and not undermine MHAs Christian mission vision and beliefs. Additionally they are required to abide by MHAs culture code and standards of conduct. All staff are expected to join gatherings which includes prayer worship and Biblecentered teaching.

Key Job Accountabilities:

  • Assist Supervisors teammates and Lead Cooks by preparing meals by specified mealtime deadlines.
  • Follow direction and recipe books to ensure consistent flavor and quality.
  • Prepare amounts indicated on production sheets to prevent waste and ensure MH food flavor consistency.
  • Follow all safe food handling practices.
  • Fill out shift cleaning and temperature logs.
  • Present the food to the guests in an eyeappealing manner.
  • Be updated on BEOS and food menus.
  • Replenish buffet lines and catering vans and catering boxes as needed.
  • Additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • This position does not have supervisory responsibilities

Qualifications

Education/Certifications/Licenses:

  • High School Grad or equivalent.

Work Experience:

  • Minimum one year of food service experience.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate in English.
  • Knowledge of basic math for recipe conversion.
  • Ability to use basic kitchen utensils.
  • Ability to create positive work relationships and work in teams.
  • Selfdirected with ability to work without constant supervision.
  • Ability to remain calm in a highenergy kitchen setting.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to lift and carry at least 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand and move around the majority of the workday.
  • Ability to work in hot and cold environments both indoors and outdoors.
  • Ability to use a variety of kitchen tools equipment and utensils including sharp objects.
  • Ability to see hear and speak.

Additional Requirements:

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.
  • Possession of or ability to obtain a California food handlers card or be ServSafe certified.
  • Adherence to the basic principles as expressed in MHAs Mission Vision Values and Commitment statements.
  • Adherence to company dress code and professional standards for personal grooming and appearance.
  • Satisfactory completion of background investigation as well as ability to provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
