Senior Scientist (Cell Culture & Fermentation Sciences)
Introduction to the Group:
Join our Biopharmaceutical Development group a multidisciplinary scientific function providing expertise in Process/Analytical/Formulation/Device Development and Characterization. We are also responsible for transferring the processes to different commercial sites in and outside the AstraZeneca organization. Our Cell Culture and Fermentation Sciences Group is accountable for cell line development process development and process characterization. This group is also responsible for the scaleup and technical transfer of processes to different clinical and commercial sites and supports manufacturing deviations and regulatory submissions as needed.
Accountabilities:
As a Senior Scientist in the Cell Culture & Fermentation Sciences group you will work alongside a team of experienced bioprocess development scientists supporting projects across our portfolio.You will develop and optimize mammalian cell culture seed train bioreactor process and implement stateoftheart process technology including process analytical technology (PAT). You will also develop and improve cell culture media and nutrient feed. Your role will involve designing experiments and the statistical analysis of data. You will support technology transfers to clinical and commercial manufacturing sites including Contract Manufacturing Organizations (CMOs) and be responsible for authoring and reviewing development reports and contributing to regulatory filings such as IND and BLA. In addition you will engage with the Data Science and Modeling group to transform our ways of working identify areas for improvement in existing laboratory automation informatics tools and workflow using novel cell culture technologies. The position may require weekend work.
Education & Experience Requirements:
Education: BS MS or PhD in Chemical/Biochemical Engineering or related field
Experience: BS degree and 7 MS degree and 5 or a PhD and 0 years of relevant industry experience
Essential Skills:
Experience in cell culture and bioreactor operation
Strong background in experimental design and data analysis with the ability to evaluate and interpret complex data sets
Solid understanding of biochemical engineering concepts and biochemical pathways
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (or related) programs
Excellent collaboration and communication skills including proven technical writing skills
Capable of making independent decisions
Ability to handle multiple projects and / or tasks concurrently in a fastpaced environment
Desirable Skills:
Knowledge of design of experiment (DOE)
Data analysis and visualization using statistical analysis software such as JMP
Data analytics modeling simulation and prediction to improve process understanding
Experience using ambr bioreactor or similar high throughput tools
Experience and knowledge in multiple areas of focus (Robotics Informatics Machine Learning/AI IT)

The annual base pay (or hourly rate of compensation) for this position ranges from $112164 to $168246. Hourly and salaried nonexempt employees will also be paid overtime pay when working qualifying overtime hours. Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors including market location jobrelated knowledge skills and experience. In addition our positions offer a shortterm incentive bonus opportunity; eligibility to participate in our equitybased longterm incentive program (salaried roles) to receive a retirement contribution (hourly roles) and commission payment eligibility (sales roles). Benefits offered included a qualified retirement program 401(k) plan; paid vacation and holidays; paid leaves; and health benefits including medical prescription drug dental and vision coverage in accordance with the terms and conditions of the applicable plans. Additional details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
