Summary
Responsible for the delivery of emergency patient care. Competent in trauma and medical situations both prehospital and in the clinical setting. Possess a basic knowledge and the necessary skills to provide lifesaving interventions while awaiting additional emergency medical services (EMS) response. May need to assist additional EMS Responders at the scene and/or during transport.Job Description
Under supervision help administer first aid treatment or life support care to sick or injured individuals in a prehospital setting. Assist with monitor of patient progress or responses to treatments. Interact with patients to build a rapport and provide emotional support. Include helping to minimize secondary injury and comfort to the patient and family while awaiting additional EMS Responders to arrive. Assist with immobilizing the patient using a backboard or other spinal immobilization device to prepare for transport.
Ensure ambulance is clean and washed and kept in a neat orderly condition. After each call restock and replace used linens blankets and other supplies cleans all equipment following appropriate disinfecting procedures checks of all equipment so that the ambulance is ready for the next run and maintains ambulance in efficient operating condition.
Physical activities include but not limited considerable use of arms and legs and moving of whole body such as climbing lifting balancing walking stooping and handling materials. Ability to drive mobile intensive care unit to specified location following instructions from emergency medical dispatcher.
Attend training classes to maintain certification licensure keep abreast of new developments in the field or maintain existing knowledge.
