CAPS AOD Coordinator
Position Summary
Responsibilities include:
- Provides culturally responsive comprehensive highquality evidencedbased individual couples/relationship and group psychotherapy to a diverse student body.
- Provides crisis intervention assessments brief interventions counseling treatment and consultation in individual and group modalities to undergraduates graduates and professional students presenting with varying clinical concerns.
- Develops implements monitors and modifies substance misuserelated clinical treatment plans that reflect evidencebased interventions that can be accomplished in a short/brief goaloriented treatment model.
- Collaborates with others in UHW to support the strategic planning and implementation of initiatives and programs related to prevention education and assessment of campus alcohol and other drug misuse.
- Plans and facilitates treatment coordination and communication as needed within CAPS and with campus partners and external agencies (inpatient treatment centers) to ensure students are receiving the appropriate level of care based on presenting concerns.
- Serves as a resource for CAPS staff on substance use/abuse issues.
- Builds and fosters relationships that facilitate CAPS development and provision of services in the area of substance use.
- Nurtures connections between CAPS and relevant constituencies in this area.
- Adheres to agency standards regarding case management documentation and scope of services.
- Participates as an active and engaged team member including staff meetings multicultural seminars case conferences professional development and other organizational meetings; consults appropriately with colleagues supervisors and campus partners.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Requirements
Masters degree in counseling from an accredited college or university confirming receipt of a masters or doctoral degree in counseling from a qualified program or a degree determined by the department in consultation with the board to be substantially equivalent to a counseling degree from a qualified program. A current State of Michigan Professional Counselor License (LPC) in good standing OR Limited Licensure (LLPC) in good standing with capability of being fully licensed within 3 years. Limited license holders must be supervised by a fully licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) until fully licensed. Two 2 years of postgraduate counseling experience preferred. Compliance with Michigan state continuing education requirements to maintain licensure. Commitment to ethical standards and confidentiality as outlined by NASW and state licensure guidelines.
Desired Qualifications
- Three years post masters experience preferably with young adults.
- Eligibility for licensure as a clinically sound practitioner with the ability to practice independently per the state guidelines established in Michigan.
- Earned (or in process of earning) State of Michigan Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CAADC) credential.
- Strong clinical skills within a brief model enthusiasm for collaboration within the collective health and wellbeing administrative unit and demonstrated interest in collegiate mental health/university counseling are required.
- Expertise and interest in providing culturally competent services to marginalized and oppressed populations especially students that identify as BIPOC with an understanding of intersectionality of diverse identities such as religion sexual orientation and other factors.
