Primary Responsibilities
- Design develop analyze document and support testing of robust precision optomechanical assemblies using precision mechanism adhesive bonding shimming kinematics and thermal control.
- Analyze loads and environmental factors on the optical/mechanical system performance.
- Work with our team to make sure all requirements are met (including manufacturability cost and schedule).
- Understand the complete mechanical design from overall system level to individual piece parts.
- Perform and provide optical/mechanical analysis of designs (including tolerance and stackups) facilitating Monte Carlo analysis to verify the designs capability across manufacturing tolerances and operational conditions.
- Build prototypes analyze failures and transition successful prototypes into production.
- Work with manufacturing engineering to break down large complex assemblies into logical subassemblies and subprocesses based on manufacturing capabilities cost and product requirements.
- Develop agreedupon project schedules and priorities with the project and engineering management leads and schedule projects/resources to meet deadlines.
- Produce regular progress reports and documentation with project Engineering Manager / Technical Lead.
- Provide technical leadership to less experienced engineers and technicians and contribute to the success of a collaborative team.
- Identify and communicate any engineering constraints/issues to project Engineering Manager / Technical Lead.
- Collaborate with engineering staff and other personnel to identify and resolve problems with the design or implementation.
- Produce mechanical engineering drawings and layouts for peer reviews vendors and customer evaluations.
- Attend regular project and design reviews and provide feedback on timings and completion of work to the projects team.
- Identify and highlight areas where additional support may be required to ensure timely and accurate completion of work.
- Generate and/or process engineering change orders (ECOs) as required.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelors Degree in Mechanical or Optical Engineering and 4 years of work experience
- Experience with optomechanical design and precision mechanisms.
- Experience and high proficiency with GD&T and performing tolerance stack up analysis.
- Experience and proficiency with CAD based software such as SolidWorks.
- Experience with mechanical engineering design and development process and workflow.
- Experience working crossfunctional teams for projectwide collaboration.
- Experience with design risk assessments (DRA) failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA) and Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA).
- Identify complex technical issues and provide necessary solutions to eliminate root causes.
- Must possess the ability to understand new concepts quickly; apply them accurately; organize schedule and coordinate work phases and determine the appropriate approach at the task level or with assistance at the project level to provide solutions to a range of complex problems.
- Experience with identifying and implementing continuous improvement solutions.
- Possess strong and fluent communication project focus and skills.
- US Citizen with the ability to obtain Secret clearance
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a development team.
- Selfmotivation and comfort working in a fastmoving hightech environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with space products (space vehicle or payload) design manufacturing or support including product design validation test troubleshooting repair and support.
- Space OptoMechanical Systems familiarity.
- US Citizen with current TS/SCI clearance
- Experience with US DoD Contract Data Requirements List (CDRLs) and mechanicalrelated documentation as required by US DoD Data Item Descriptions.
