Job Description

Description
  • Horizon School Lowestoft Suffolk NR32 4TD
  • Teacher of English
  • MPR/UPR with SEN1
  • Full Time 1 FTE)
  • Permanent
  • Reference: 7094

Horizon School seeks to appoint an English Teacher at our Upper School site in Lowestoft to start as soon as possible.

Horizon School is a two site Pupil Referral Unit (KS1 KS4 site and Tier 4 Inpatient Youth and Adolescent CAMHS) in North Suffolk. Children come to Horizon School for intervention when they require support in managing their behaviour. This can often be at a point of personal crisis or where their underlying needs havent yet been identified which are therefore creating a barrier to them accessing mainstream education.

Role

Teacher of English (KS3 and KS4

You will be allocated a timetable within their expertise and experience but flexibility is required and you will at times be expected to deliver other lessons. In addition depending on the needs of the school timetable staff may be asked to teach additional subjects such as: reading PSHE 1 to 1 intervention; this is not uncommon in a small Pupil Referral Unit setting and is in part why all staff are paid a SEN point.

All teaching staff within the PRU are expected to take on the role of Form Tutor as outlined within the staff handbook and as reasonable additional duty delegated by the Headteacher.

We are looking for a Teacher who:

  • is an excellent teaching practitioner
  • has excellent classroom management skills
  • flexibility
  • has a sound knowledge of the English curriculum
  • can build positive relationships with students
  • is friendly and approachable
  • has excellent preparation and organisation skills
  • has a strong work ethic
  • has resilience
  • has high expectations for all.

Our current team of staff are highly committed to supporting our students to ensure they get as much as they can out of their education at Horizon School. If you feel you could contribute to the school and join us on our journey we would welcome a letter of application from you.

This School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

Any offer of employment to this post will be subject to receipt of a satisfactory Enhanced Disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service and two references.
