Job Description

Salary Information

Compensation plans are based on a multistep progression system. The pay range reflects the entry level and maximum salary potential in the assigned pay grade.

**A starting salary may be negotiated and will be commensurate with education training and experience in alignment with pay administration policies and Montgomery Personnel Board Rules & Regulations**

Nature of Work

The fundamental reason this classification exists is tooperate garbage packers truckmounted trash loaders and other refusecollection vehicles in order to service the Sanitation Departmentscustomers. Sanitation Truck Driversserve as the leader of a crew consisting of a driver and two servicemaintenance workers; drivers are responsible for setting the pace of work andensuring the safety of the crew and the public.Major work responsibilities may include: operating sanitationvehicles; serving as the lead worker for work crew; performing preventativemaintenance checks; communicating with customers and the public; and assistingin the performance of manual labor. Although routes are assigned by supervisorsSanitation Truck Drivers are responsible for ensuring the assigned route iscompleted in a timely manner. Work is performedwith limited immediate supervision and requires drivers to exercise independentjudgement while on routes. Supervision is received from the Refuse CollectionSupervisor.

Minimum Qualifications

Six 6 months of experienceoperating equipment such as garbage packers sanitation vehicles buses tractor trailers and other vehiclesrequiring a Class B CDL or higher. Mustpossess and maintain a valid AlabamaCommercial Drivers License Class B or higher.

NOTE: Qualifying education training and experiencethat provide the requisite knowledge skills and abilities to perform the jobwill be considered.

Special Requirements

Must work overtime nights and weekends for emergencies and special events. Must possess and maintain an insurable driving record.

PHYSICAL ABILITIES: Physical ability to stand stoop bend or kneel as needed to operate and inspect equipment perform preventivemaintenance checks and perform manual labor duties. Physical ability to sit for extended periods of time up to 2 hours in order to operate equipment.Physical ability to operate equipment from an enclosed cab while being exposed to inclementweather dust and dirt.

Kind of Examination

Applicants will be screened and qualified based upon education and experience as shown on the application.
