Responsible and accountable for coordinating and supervising the nursing care provided to patients having pre operative Phase 1 and Phase 2 recovery for the Operating Room and Endoscopy services
Key Responsibilities include:
Ensure staff members provide safe patient care in the area managed.
Incorporate and assist staff members with assimilating evidencebased knowledge into decisions for the provision
of safe patient care.
Assist staff members in evaluating practice and creating strategies for further improvements.
Ensure the educational resources are available for team education and hold staff members accountable for
attendance.
Coordinate facilitate and manage change within the health care organization.
Collect and analyze data related to performance improvement projects that apply to the area managed.
Facilitate or serve as a member of a multidisciplinary team in planning patient care.
Operationally and fiscally manage the department.
Evaluate staff member performance.
Interview for staff member selection.
Ensure that appropriate staff members equipment and supplies are available.
Ensure staff member compliance with organizational policies accreditation standard governmental regulations and professional standards of care.
Develops and assists in the implementation of patient care standards and protocols to meet the needs of perioperative patients
Collaborates and participates in the development of orientees through out their orientation process
Develops and implements flexible relevant competency based orientation programs for Periop staff
Assesses unique departmental needs and coordinates relevant competencies and inservicing education with input from the Periop leadership team
Supports Periop preceptors in their role and in their ongoing development as preceptors
Assists preceptors and orientees in creating an individualized orientation plan
Utilizes evidencebased research to guide policy and practice development for the Perioperative Services Department and ensures that policies and Departmental guidelines are current
Develops and implements annual educational plans for the Periop team and conducts required annual drills such as but not limited to Mock Code MH Drills and Fire Safety
Required Knowledge and Skills:
Education: Graduate from an accredited school of Nursing. BSN
Experience: 1 year of management experience; 35 years of Periooperative experience required
Certification/Licensure: Current registered nursing license in the state of MA. BLS required. ACLS ASPAN certification preferred.
Software/Hardware: Meditech Microsoft Office
