As our Physician Assistant at our Iowa Methodist Medical Center Level 1 Trauma Center you will provide our patients the orthopedic care they need to get back to daily life and the activities they love. You will primarily serve patients in the Operating Room up to 4 days a week and one follow up date in the Clinic. This position also has an ancillary service line in lower extremity services. You will be an important part of a care team directly with one surgeon. No two days are the same working alongside an Orthopaedic Trauma Surgeon who supports a community in need of care.
Heres What You Can Expect
- A fastpaced specialized learning environment. Youll spend most of your work week in the OR and the time in the clinic working directly with the orthopaedic surgeon in the Trauma and Total Joint replacement specialty. This is an opportunity to gain rare handson surgical experience working oneonone with a surgeon.
- You will work together to assess and treat patients. Starting with training where you work 11 with the doctor you will participate in assessment referral education follow up patient administration and assist in operations in either an Ambulatory or Hospital Setting.
- You will partner with an orthopaedic surgeon who you will support oncall requirement. Most physicians require support for one oncall day each week and one weekend every six to eight weeks. Our rotation schedule requires that everyone do their part to help everyone create work life balance.
- You will act as the patients kind guide during their intake and followup appointments asking questions to diagnose then explaining the next steps in a clear way for treatment of their injury.
- Being on your feet all day sometimes assisting in transporting positioning or holding patients when necessary.
What Were Looking For
- A Masters from an accredited Physicians Assistant program and a License to practice in the state of Iowa. Our inhouse credentialing team can help you obtain the DEA and CSA.
- Ability to communicate calmly and provide reassurance when patients are nervous.
- You practice the art of listening asking clarifying questions and avoiding interrupting your patient.
- For credentialing at a hospital you must be up to date on vaccinations and meet all requirements necessary for credentialing. No ortho experience is required.
