ARIZONA LOTTERY

The Arizona Lottery is a salesoriented government enterprise established through citizen initiative and public vote. Since 1981 its mission has remained constant; generating revenue for education health and public welfare economic and business development and the environment.

Job Summary:

The Arizona Lottery is seeking an experienced and highly motivated individual to join our team as an Internal Auditor!

This position may offer the ability to work remotely within Arizona based upon the departments business needs and continual meeting of expected performance measures.

The State of Arizona strives for a work culture that affords employees flexibility autonomy and trust. Across our many agencies boards and commissions many State employees participate in the States Remote Work Program and are able to work remotely in their homes in offices and in hoteling spaces. All work including remote work should be performed within Arizona unless an exception is properly authorized in advance.

Job Duties:Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Developing and implementing a yearly audit plan;
  • Preparing detailed reports on audit findings;
  • Examining investigating and reviewing records reports financial statements and management practices;
  • Planning and organizing audit procedures;
  • Collecting and analyzing data to detect deficient controls fraud or noncompliance with laws regulations and management policies;
  • Inspecting account books and accounting systems for efficiency effectiveness and use of accepted accounting procedures to record transactions;
  • Verifying game effective start date is updated correctly in the appropriate systems;
  • Verifying accuracy of game data loaded into the appropriate system;
  • Verifying accuracy of game data printed in accordance with the game working papers;
  • Comparing game load information to game load reports;
  • Accounting for the final disposition of instant tickets originally received from the applicable vendor after the validation period has expired for the game;
  • Observing inhouse drawings and verifying their accuracy;
  • Processing weekly payments to the MultiState Lottery Association (MUSL) for Arizona Powerball sales and Arizona Mega Millions sales;
  • Processing winning online and scratcher tickets that will not validate through the claims screens; Verifying log and payment for second chance drawings.

Knowledge Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Requires knowledge of:

  • Knowledge of standards best practices and methods for internal auditing;
  • Knowledge of computer technology principles terminology and programming;
  • Knowledge of federal regulations Arizona Revised Statutes applicable agency manuals and policies and procedures;
  • Knowledge of Arizona Lottery policies and procedures;
  • Knowledge of Federal State and Lottery program laws rules regulations policies and procedures;
  • Knowledge of Google Workspace.


Requires skills in:

  • Skill in applying and interpreting Federal and State laws rules and regulations as they pertain to the operations and activities of the Lottery;
  • Skill in applying Lottery business knowledge to recognize and resolve problems;
  • Skill in effectively communicating verbally and in writing;
  • Skill in the use of Google Suites;
  • Skill in applying Internal Auditing standards best practices and methods;
  • Strong analytical research critical thinking time management and verbal and written communication skills.


Requires the ability to:

  • Ability to compose clear and concise audit reports;
  • Ability to accurately complete and assemble audit working papers;
  • Accurately analyze and interpret data;
  • Communicate effectively orally and in writing;
  • Ability to complete assignments in an accurate and timely manner;
  • Ability to synthesize audit evidence to reach clear and concise conclusions;
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively and prioritize under tight deadlines.
PreEmployment Requirements:

Bachelors Degree in accounting business or a field emphasizing data organization analytical skills research or writing; OR two years experience as an Auditor or equivalent.

If this position requires driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function of the job to conduct State business then the following requirements apply:Drivers License Requirements.
