As a Senior level Hydro Plant Mechanical Engineer youll be the driving force behind our mission. Your expertise will extend to the very heart of our operations from the intense turbines to the intricate Fish Facilities Wicket Gates and turbine shutoff Valve (TSVs) systems.

You will shape the specifications coordinate fabrication and oversee every aspect of these critical systems life cycles from installation to operation application maintenance and repair.

Responsibilities

  • Engineering Standards Maintains currency in stateoftheart engineering practices and provides guidance and direction on engineering processes and standards to colleagues as requested. Utilizes thorough understanding and interpretation of applicable codes (i.e. American National Standards Institute National Fire Protection Association Codes and Standards etc. and serves as a resource providing guidance to other engineers.
  • Engineering Production Prepares a variety of complex engineering deliverables for larger or multiple projects; coordinates multiple discipline activity. Analyzes and recommends overall design enhancements to the operation reliability safety and regulatory compliance of PGEs generating resources; reviews calculations completed by other engineers; project work may include project work may include Turbine repower general modifications vibration analysis lube oil analysis bearing alignment specification development and review etc.
    • Analyzes responds to performs and reviews complex technical studies; supports RCAs; prepares reports and design packages and provides data and recommendations on complex technical matters to company personnel and management.
    • Investigates and analyzes complex system construction maintenance and operational problems. Develops solutions and initiates corrective actions.
    • Provides design direction to other engineers technicians draftsmen and designers within functional area.
    • Lead the design of mechanical systems for hydroelectric power plants including turbines generators valves pumps and other equipment.
    • Analyze and evaluate site conditions to create mechanical designs that optimize energy production and minimize downtime.
    • Work with multidisciplinary teams to integrate mechanical systems with electrical civil and control systems.
    • Develop design specifications and standards for mechanical equipment and systems used in hydroelectric plants.
    • Use simulation software (e.g. CFD Bluebeam etc) to optimize designs and performance.
    • Provide troubleshooting of mechanical systems in existing hydro plants to ensure ongoing operational efficiency.
    • Recommend upgrades modifications and retrofits for equipment to improve efficiency reduce maintenance costs or extend operational life.
  • Project Coordination Actively coordinates with other internal/external team members on moderately complex projects including representing the team to interdepartmental stakeholders.
    • Oversee the mechanical engineering aspects of multiple projects ensuring timely completion within budget and scope.
    • Coordinate with project managers engineers and other stakeholders to ensure project milestones are met.
    • Develop and track project schedules and budgets and identify potential risks and mitigation strategies.
    • Mentor junior engineers providing guidance on design best practices problemsolving and project .
    • Selects design methodologies and solutions to apply; leads work with other engineering departments plant staff environmental services nondestructive examination team and reliabilitycentered maintenance team.
  • Knowledge Sharing Serves as a technical specialist and provides consultation/guidance to project teams in a particular practice area; actively fosters knowledge management and provides mentoring; implements resourcemanagement strategy. Maintains a high level of engineering proficiency within a field of specialization.

Qualifications

Required:

Senior P3 Level

  • Education Requires a bachelors degree in engineering. ABET accredited engineering program or program accredited by an equivalent agency preferred.
  • Experience Typically five or more years in engineering or four or more years in a related field with PE license.
  • Certifications Licenses and Training Professional Engineering (PE) license strongly preferred; may be required based upon role.
  • Valid Drivers License required

P2 Level

  • Education Requires a bachelors degree in engineering. ABET accredited engineering program or program accredited by an equivalent agency preferred.
  • Experience Typically two or more years in engineering.
  • Certifications Licenses and Training Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam strongly preferred; maybe be required based upon role.
  • Valid Drivers License required

Preferred:

  • Advanced knowledge of hydro turbine operations and maintenance.
  • Advanced knowledge of engineering and economic principles and concepts.
  • Advanced knowledge in design and maintenance of hydro turbine/generator fish hatchery design hydro plant design condensers pumping pipes valves and other auxiliary equipment.
  • Advanced knowledge of other engineering disciplines and intermediate ability to interpret engineering deliverable content as assigned.
  • Advanced knowledge and application of engineering processes and procedures.
  • Advanced industry knowledge and technology trends.
  • Advanced knowledge of company QA/QC process and procedures.
  • Aggressive issue resolution.
  • Excellent communication and coordination skills.
  • Working knowledge of construction feasibility.
  • Working knowledge of procurement and contract administration.
  • Advanced knowledge of process and procedures for project controls and estimates.
  • Working knowledge in design and maintenance of other power generation systems is a plus.

PGE supports hybrid flexible work arrangements; and will have a combination of intheoffice and working offsite. However these arrangements may change due to business needs or changes in responsibility.

Compensation Range:

$81450.00 $160500.00

Actual total compensation including a performance based incentive bonus is commensurate with experience skills qualifications education training and internal equity. While we anticipate the selected candidate for this position will fall towards the middle or entry point of the compensation range the decision will be made on a casebycase basis.
