Job Purpose:

The Compliance Officer will be responsible for ensuring that the company operates in full compliance with all relevant Maltese regulatory requirements including those set out by the Malta Financial Services Authority (MFSA) as well as other relevant regulations across EEA member states where the company passports into including compliance with General Good Provisions (GGP). This role will involve overseeing regulatory compliance implementing policies and procedures Provide advice on complex regulatory and compliance matters ensuring the business understands and navigates its obligations effectively across multiple jurisdictions and ensuring adherence to applicable regulations laws as relevant to general insurance operations.

The successful candidate will work closely with compliance colleagues in the UK and report directly to the Head of Compliance in the UK. This role requires an individual who can effectively manage regulatory interactions particularly with the MFSA ensuring a constructive and professional relationship while maintaining a firm and robust stance where necessary.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as the primary point of contact with regulatory authorities including the MFSA and all other relevant supervisory bodies.
  • Monitor regulatory developments across Malta and other EEA member states and assess their impact on the company advising management on necessary actions.
  • Ensure that all policies procedures and controls are updated in line with regulatory requirements and best practices.
  • Conduct compliance risk assessments and implement appropriate mitigation strategies where required.
  • Provide training and guidance to staff on compliance matters including regulatory requirements company policies and ethical standards.
  • Support colleagues in the functions assurance arm in executing the oversight plan and related activities including compliance monitoring and reporting to senior management and the Board of Directors.
  • Ensure that the companys internal compliance reporting and regulatory filings are completed accurately and on time.
  • Prepare briefings and reports for the Board and its subcommittees ensuring clear communication of compliance risks regulatory changes and other relevant compliance KPIs.
  • Manage interactions with the MFSA in a professional and structured manner fostering a collaborative relationship while confidently challenging any perceived regulatory overreach in a constructive and wellreasoned manner.
  • Prioritise and manage workloads effectively demonstrating strong problemsolving skills and a pragmatic approach to compliance challenges.

  • Key Requirements:

  • A degree in Law Finance Business or a related field. A compliancerelated certification (e.g. ICA ACAMS) is desirable.
  • Minimum of 35 years experience in a compliance role within the insurance or financial services industry preferably in Malta.
  • Strong knowledge of MFSA regulations Solvency II IDD AML/CFT requirements and other applicable laws.
  • Experience in liaising with regulators and handling regulatory inspections.
  • Proven ability to engage with regulators in a professional and effective manner demonstrating both diplomacy and firmness when required.
  • Excellent analytical problemsolving and decisionmaking skills.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to effectively advise and train employees at all levels.
  • High level of integrity and ability to work proactively and independently with minimal supervision.
  • Fluency in English
