The University of Tulsa an independent nondenominational university invites nominations applications and expressions of interest for the position of Chair the McDougall School of Petroleum Engineering in the College of Engineering & Computer Science. The next Chair will have the opportunity to guide a dedicated talented and eager faculty and staff to enhance the Universitys impact and status as a leading research university. To support TUs ambitious growth initiatives the newly formed College of Engineering and Computer Science ECS at the University of Tulsa will significantly increase its faculty in the next five years and seeks inspired faculty and faculty leaders to join us in this mission. College of Engineering & Computer Science The University of Tulsa created the College of Engineering & Computer Science from prior academic units and launched a national search to recruit its dean. In the spring of 2023 Andreas A. Polycarpou Ph.D. was named inaugural dean of the College. Before joining TU Polycarpou was the James J. Cain 51 Chair in Mechanical Engineering at Texas A&M University and where he had served for nearly nine years as the department head of the J. Mike Walker 66 Mechanical Engineering Department. Polycarpou is the author of more than 250 archival journal papers numerous book chapters and volume proceedings as well as two dozen patents. He cofounded a materials startup company in 2010 and has won numerous national and international honors including the American Society of Mechanical Engineers ASME Mayo D. Hersey Award and the ASME Edwin F. Church Medal for pedagogical innovations and was recently inducted as a senior member of the American Academy of Inventors. McDougall School of Petroleum Engineering The McDougall School of Petroleum Engineering was established in 1928 and is considered one of the leading petroleum engineering programs in the world. The department has a diverse body of students representing more than 30 countries and is known for conducting broad research in all three principal areas: reservoir production and drilling. Students enjoy access to many research opportunities with 21 existing consortia and joint industry projects supported by some of the worlds top energy firms. The departments facilities include state of the art computer facilities modern teaching labs and a drilling simulator. Additionally their North Campus research campus which includes a fullscale cutting transport facility a 2000 foot well for multiphase and artificial lift experiments and many multiphase flow loops are uniquely designed for conducting the consortium supported labtopilot scale experimental research. . The department offers B.S. M.E. M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Petroleum Engineering and an M.E. in Energy Transition. The Position The Chair will be an experienced leader with an accomplished record of scholarship and dedication to excellence in teaching and research. They will also possess a forwardlooking vision that will address the needs of the faculty staff students and the nation. Essential Functions (Respsonsibilities): Lead departmental efforts to plan for the future including new research areas and new degree programs; Lead efforts to recruit and retain talented faculty encouraging diversity and inclusivity within the department; Oversee and manage departmental faculty and staff including performance reviews contract renewals and professional development; Balance the departments needs and the colleges broader interests through effective communication and collaboration; Engage in active research that complements and enhances existing research areas in the department and the college; and Teach at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The chair will also be expected to provide leadership for key departmental functions such as the capability to: Coordinate departmental recruiting of prospective undergraduate and graduate students; Coordinate advising and mentoring of undergraduate and graduate students; Oversee and manage the departmental budget; Oversee annual program assessment program review and continuous improvement processes; Work with the faculty in the department to develop the course offerings for each semester. The Chair should have the following qualifications: Earned Ph.D. degree in Petroleum Engineering or a related field. A record of teaching research and scholarly accomplishments in Petroleum Engineering commensurate with the rank of full professor with tenure; Experience in building and sustaining collaborative crossdisciplinary research; Ability to develop and sustain relationships with alumni industry partners and federal funding agencies; Excellent communication and managerial skills to support and empower faculty staff and students; Experience in framing and executing enrollment and recruitment efforts; and Experience with budgets and personnel matters.
